The Albanese Government is establishing a national Prostate Cancer Expert Advisory Group to strengthen cancer care for men across the country and deliver on the goals of the Australian Cancer Plan to provide world class equitable cancer outcomes.

Special Envoy for Men’s Health, Dan Repacholi MP, will co-chair the new advisory group alongside Associate Professor Chris Milross, Chair of Cancer Australia’s Advisory Council.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia and the second leading cause of cancer mortality among Australian men.

The advisory group will focus on addressing inequities in access to care, early detection particularly for those at highest risk, minimise the risk of overdiagnosis and overtreatment, and support men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families in dealing with the physical, psychological, and financial impacts of the disease.

This group is a key step in implementing the Australian Cancer Plan. The ten-year national framework outlines coordinated actions to make cancer care more equitable, person-centred, and responsive to areas of unmet and emerging need.

The establishment of the Prostate Cancer Expert Advisory Group demonstrates the Government’s commitment to building a fairer, more effective cancer care system that delivers better outcomes for all Australians.
