Liberty Bell Bay statement

Liberty Bell Bay < 1 min read

Attributable to a Liberty Bell Bay spokesperson:

Liberty Bell Bay has faced a challenging 20 months due to the force majeure declared by its main ore supplier, a significant deterioration in market conditions worldwide, and rising costs. Production is currently paused.
Workers remain on site on regular shift rosters completing maintenance and commissioning work, and all employees continue to be paid.
LBB remains committed to finalising the submission of its financial statements to ASIC as soon as possible.
It continues to pursue a sustainable future for Australia’s only manganese smelter to protect 216 Tasmanian jobs and will resist any application to wind up the business.

CCAA Chief Executive Officer Michael Kilgariff said the heavy construction materials industry underpins the nation’s economy and must be prioritised to ensure continuity of supply.…

Australian Workers' Union

NSW Government must back Australian sovereignty, not bow to outdated free-marketeers

The Australian Workers' Union is calling on the NSW Government to finalise its contribution to saving the Tomago aluminium smelter without further delay. AWU national secretary Paul Farrow said the equation for the NSW Government could not be simpler. "If you give up on Tomago you give up on the Hunter," Mr Farrow said. "This is the largest single employer in the Hunter Valley energy precinct. The businesses, the supply chains, the communities that depend on this smelter need certainty. “Right now the NSW Government should focus on saving a vital industry, not about getting square on GST or any…
