MAINTENANCE BLITZ FOR 55 MORE SCHOOLS

Wednesday, 4 March 2026 2 mins read

The Allan Labor Government is making sure Victorian students are learning in modern schools.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll today announced 55 schools will benefit from maintenance works.

The schools will share in $35.077 million from the Planned Maintenance Program (PMP), thanks to investment from the Labor Government.

Practical measures include upgrading emergency shelters, replacing windows, painting and resurfacing floors.

These mean high-quality spaces for principals, teachers and staff and better learning experiences for students.

Thanks to the Labor Government, Leongatha Secondary College will receive a boost of over $2.5 million, Monbulk College is seeing over $1 million in funding and Sunbury Primary School is receiving over $480,000.

Funding for school maintenance has increased by six-fold under Labor.

The Liberals and Nationals slashed $1 billion from the education budget when they were last in power.

They let public schools crumble and decay, abandoning Victorian school communities.

In stark contrast, Labor has made a record $18.5 billion investment in our public schools.

Labor’s record investment has seen 121 new public schools delivered and more than 2,300 school upgrades.

Budget must restore Victoria’s competitiveness

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Committee for Melbourne (CfM) are urging the Victorian Government to use the upcoming 2026-27 State Budget to rebuild business confidence and restore Victoria’s competitiveness. Victoria’s economic momentum has weakened in recent years, with businesses facing rising costs, increasing regulatory complexity and uncertainty about the State’s long-term fiscal position.
