***MEDIA ALERT*** WA greyhound racing set to cost community $36.4m this year, analysis reveals

Animals Australia < 1 min read

Greyhound racing in Western Australia is unviable, with the state set to lose $36.4 million in economic value this year alone, new analysis reveals.

An independent economic analysis on greyhound racing in WA has been released highlighting new cost-benefit insights that previous economic studies sponsored by the racing code have failed to report.

Before providing evidence at the Parliamentary Inquiry hearings today, WA Free the Hounds will be available to comment on the costs of greyhound racing on rescues and the community, and outline why WA needs to phase out greyhound racing.

Free the Hounds will be joined by independent economist and author of the analysis, Stephen Walters, who can talk about the new economic findings, as well as an ex-greyhound racing participant who will share his lived experience on the costs to the dogs and the people involved in racing despite past attempts to improve regulations.
