Sydney SEO Agency Implements Mandatory WFH Day to Combat Rising Fuel Costs Bringing Relief to Employees

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
23 March 2026

Sydney-based SEO agency UR Digital has announced the immediate implementation of a weekly work-from-home (WFH) day for all staff. The move is a proactive response to the surge in Australian fuel prices, which have doubled from $1.50 to approximately $3.00 per litre for Unleaded 91 in just a couple of weeks.

Despite government assurances that there is no fuel shortage, odd-even refuelling strategies and rationing measures can create logistical hurdles for commuters. UR Digital’s new policy aims to alleviate the financial and mental burden on its team members before any official government mandates are issued.

1. Direct Financial Relief for Employees

The primary driver for this decision is the rising cost of the daily commute. For employees living in Greater Sydney, the savings from cutting just one day of travel average $35 per week. When calculated monthly, this $140 saving is equivalent to covering a small household's monthly electricity bill or a full week's worth of essential groceries.

"For our staff who live further from the CBD or rely on toll roads, costs add up quickly," says Pulkit Agrawal, Founder of UR Digital. "By working from home one day a week, we are effectively putting around $1,680–$1,820 back into an employee's pocket annually."

2. Prioritising Team Wellbeing Over Policy

UR Digital believes that corporate responsibility involves acting before a crisis peak. While the Australian government deliberates on COVID-like measures and rationing, the agency has chosen to prioritise the comfort and mental health of its team.

"We aren't waiting for a mandate," Agrawal continues. "We care for our team. If we can remove the stress of petrol queues and the financial hit of a $150 or more tank of fuel, it's a simple decision. Our focus is on the comfort and mental health of our team. Let them focus on their jobs without worrying about the cost of getting to and from the office."

3. A Call for Industry-Wide Proactivity

UR Digital is calling on other businesses with eligible roles to adopt similar measures. If 1 million eligible Australian workers adopted a 1-day WFH model, we would be looking at $35M in weekly national savings and $140M in monthly annual savings.

By reducing the volume of cars on the road, businesses can collectively lower the demand for fuel, potentially stabilise prices, and ease the pressure on the national supply chain during the Middle East conflict.

Budget must restore Victoria’s competitiveness

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Committee for Melbourne (CfM) are urging the Victorian Government to use the upcoming 2026-27 State Budget to rebuild business confidence and restore Victoria’s competitiveness. Victoria’s economic momentum has weakened in recent years, with businesses facing rising costs, increasing regulatory complexity and uncertainty about the State’s long-term fiscal position. VCCI and CfM’s 2026-27 State Budget Submission, ‘Reclaiming our competitiveness and prosperity’, sets out a targeted agenda focused on restoring confidence, driving investment and positioning Victoria to capture emerging global economic opportunities. The submission identifies several priorities areas where the State Government can…
