Around 1,000 People to Take Part in Australia’s Largest Mass Baptism on Good Friday

Perth, WA – Kingdomcity Church will host what is believed to be Australia’s largest mass baptism event this Good Friday, with around 1,000 people expected to be baptised at the Swan River foreshore at 4:00pm.

The landmark gathering will bring together participants from across Western Australia and interstate for a significant public moment of faith, community, and personal transformation.

Senior Pastor of Kingdomcity Church Mark Varughese, spokesperson for the event, said the scale of the baptism reflects a growing openness to faith and spirituality.

“Baptism, in the evangelical Christian tradition, is a public declaration of an inward decision,” Pastor Varughese said. “It symbolises leaving behind the past and stepping into a new life—something that resonates with the universal human desire for renewal, hope, and purpose.”

While rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, the meaning of baptism can be understood in broader terms.

“At its heart, this is about people choosing a new direction,” he said. “It’s a moment of commitment to Jesus Christ, to faith, to values, and to a future marked by hope.”

Held on Good Friday, the event aligns with the Christian remembrance of Jesus’ crucifixion and sacrifice, making it a significant day for those taking this step.

The event is expected to draw strong public interest along Perth’s iconic waterfront, with many attending to witness personal stories of change, resilience, and faith.

Kingdomcity has welcomed media and public attendance, noting the visual and human-interest significance of the gathering.
