CHASING GOLD ON THE PODIUM AND IN THE BOARDROOM – ACCOUNTING PATHWAY SUPPORTS ELITE ATHLETES AND PERFORMERS

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) are helping bridge the gap between sport, performance and study by supporting the next generation of accountants through its Elite Athletes and Performers Program (EAPP).

CA ANZ’s EAPP helps athletes and performers manage their studies for the CA Program while balancing their busy training, competition and performance schedules.

The program assists those training or competing at a national or international level, and offers eligibility to musicians, dancers, actors, poets, public speakers, debaters, athletes (alumni, emerging and developing) and coaches.

CA ANZ Group Executive Education and Marketing Simon Hann said the program paves the way for elite athletes and performers to transition to a career as a Chartered Accountant (CA), providing them with the flexibility required to follow their dreams and build a career.

“Balancing an elite performance career and the desire to study can be incredibly stressful for athletes and performers alike,” Mr Hann said.

“Sport and the performing arts contribute enormously to the economic and social fabric of Australia and New Zealand. Chartered Accountants with firsthand experience in these fields will be uniquely placed to support the sector.

“Their lived experience, combined with the prestige and expertise conferred by earning their CA designation will make them invaluable wherever their careers lead.

“Whether you are an Olympian wishing to climb corporate peaks, or an elite performer ready to inspire a new audience, CA ANZ’s EAPP makes the process simpler and easier.”

Under the program, participants have access to a dedicated EAPP contact person who will guide and support them through their CA Program study pathway.

They can receive assistance with study load, flexibility, health, wellbeing, study progression and advocacy support, as well as having the ability to extend the time it takes to complete the CA Program if they have to reduce their study loads due to their sporting or performance obligations.

Through the early stages of the program, there have been representatives from a range of sports, including swimming, taekwondo, cheerleading, ice hockey, surf lifesaving, and dragon boat racing.

“With the CA EAPP Program, athletes and performers can tailor their learning to match their unique talents and passions, while making an impact on the industries and communities that are important to them,” Mr Hann said.

To be eligible, athletes must demonstrate current or recent engagement in national or international level sport and performers must show sustained success and obligations in professional or competitive performance.

More information about the EAPP is available on the CA ANZ website.
