FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, UK | Sydney, Australia | Bengaluru, India – April 2026

Education Centre of Australia (ECA), a trusted university partner with 20 years of experience in international education, has expanded its global campus network through a new partnership with Birkbeck, University of London, supporting the establishment of an international campus in Bengaluru, India.

The development reflects a growing shift in international education towards transnational delivery models, allowing students to access globally recognised qualifications closer to home. Courses at the Bengaluru campus are expected to be significantly more accessible, with tuition costs up to 60% lower than equivalent study in London, addressing key barriers around cost and mobility.

Located in Whitefield’s Sattva Tech Park, the campus will enable students to study for a University of London degree in India, with programmes delivered under Birkbeck’s academic leadership and quality assurance framework.

The partnership was formally marked by a launch and signing event attended by senior representatives from government and the international education sector, including Dr Vineet Joshi, Chairman of the University Grants Commission and Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education; Dr K M Praphullachandra Sharma, Joint Secretary, International Cooperation Cell, Ministry of Education; Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director India at the British Council; and Ms Lindy Cameron CB OBE, British High Commissioner to India, alongside Professor Sally Wheeler OBE, Vice-Chancellor of Birkbeck, University of London.

Rupesh Singh, Chief Executive Officer at ECA Group, said, “This partnership with Birkbeck represents a defining moment for ECA as we enter our third decade. It reflects our strategic pivot towards global campus delivery and our commitment to helping leading universities expand into high-growth international markets.

By combining Birkbeck’s globally respected academic model with ECA’s proven track record in transnational education, we are creating a scalable blueprint for international campus partnerships. Bengaluru is the first of many global campus initiatives we are developing as we continue to support institutions in extending their reach and impact worldwide.”

The Bengaluru campus will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business management and business analytics, designed to combine academic rigour with applied learning and industry engagement. Its location within one of India’s principal technology and business districts supports direct exposure to multinational business environments and career pathways.

For ECA, the partnership forms part of a broader strategy to scale international campus delivery, building on its established experience across Australia and the UK. As the organisation enters its third decade, it is extending its global footprint through collaborations that enable universities to translate academic excellence into global access.

As demand for flexible, globally recognised education pathways continues to evolve, Birkbeck Bengaluru represents a proof point of a repeatable model. Combining academic quality, operational capability, and market access to deliver international education at scale.

Budget misses chance to scrap a damaging university funding model

The federal Budget has delivered needed tax reforms but has missed an opportunity to fix Australia's universities, with the government failing to take the urgent action needed to fix a disastrous funding model. The National Tertiary Education Union says while it welcomes the government's commitment to the universities accord reform agenda, tonight's Budget does not match the scale of the problem facing Australian higher education. NTEU National President Dr Alison Barnes said failing to replace the Morrison government’s Jobs Ready Graduates scheme would hurt universities. "Jobs Ready Graduates has been a policy dumpster fire that this government didn’t start but…

Withdraw ‘untruthful’ Senate inquiry submission: Call

The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) has misled a Senate inquiry into wage underpayment. The Australian Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA) said an NTEU submission to the inquiry, which is due to report in June this year, contains unsubstantiated allegations, vague comments, confected opinion and self-serving statements. Furthermore, the union, which often talks about governance in higher education, has demonstrated a clear lack of understanding of the area in its submission. Further, last year the NTEU was rebuked by the Fair Work Commission in relation to eligibility of office holders and union elections – evidence of poor governance practices. AHEIA’s…
