Media Release: Vasey RSL Care and Box Hill RSL Team up to Support Veterans at Risk of Homelessness

Vasey RSL Care 2 mins read

Vasey RSL Care today proudly acknowledged a generous commitment of $120,000 over three years from the Box Hill RSL Sub-Branch, which will directly support the organisation’s V Centre Veteran Empowerment Program – an innovative initiative assisting veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Located in Ivanhoe, Victoria, the V Centre Veteran Empowerment Program opened in February 2024 and is an industry-first, purpose-designed program. It combines safe, stable accommodation with tailored support services to help veterans navigate the challenges of transitioning to civilian life and regain independence.

The longstanding relationship between Vasey RSL Care and the Box Hill RSL Sub-Branch reflects a shared commitment to supporting the ex-service community. This latest contribution builds on previous support provided during the program’s early stages and reinforces a mutual dedication to improving outcomes for vulnerable veterans.

Vasey RSL Care Chief Executive Officer, Janna Voloshin, said the donation would have a meaningful and lasting impact.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Box Hill RSL Sub-Branch for their continued generosity and belief in the V Centre Veteran Empowerment Program. This significant contribution will directly support veterans who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, helping them to rebuild their lives with dignity, stability and purpose. It is a powerful example of the Sub-Branch network supporting their own.”

Box Hill RSL Sub-Branch President, John Haward, said the organisation was proud to contribute to such an important initiative.

“Supporting veterans is at the heart of everything we do, and the V Centre Veteran Empowerment Program is delivering real outcomes for those doing it tough. It provides veterans with a vital starting point on their path to independence. We are proud to partner with Vasey RSL Care and contribute to a program that is making a genuine difference in the lives of veterans.”

This donation highlights the vital role RSL sub-branches play in giving back to the ex-service community and ensuring veterans receive the support they need when they need it most.

Vasey RSL Care is Australia’s leading provider of ex-service accommodation, care and support, delivering veteran-specific services to around 1,000 ex-service people each year. With a workforce of more than 750 staff and volunteers, the organisation provides social housing for over 320 veterans, war widows and partners across metropolitan and regional locations, alongside home care services, residential aged care, and the V Centre Veteran Empowerment Program.
