STEPS launches Individualised Living Options service on Sunshine Coast for NDIS participants

STEPS 2 mins read

STEPS has launched its Individualised Living Options (ILO) service on the Sunshine Coast, giving NDIS participants greater choice and control over how and where they live.

The STEPS Community Support service responds to growing demand for flexible, person-led living options that move away from traditional housing models and place the NDIS participant at the centre of every decision.

STEPS NDIS Services General Manager Rebecca Bowtell said the expansion reflects STEPS’ commitment to delivering holistic, lifechanging support.

“The STEPS Individualised Living Options exploration and design service gives people with a disability personalised guidance at every stage of the process, because we want to ensure that our participants have everything they need to live life on their own terms,” Ms Bowtell said.

“It can be difficult for anyone on the Sunshine Coast to find a home that meets their needs and supports their desired lifestyle; now, imagine how much more complex and overwhelming that can be for a person with a disability, particularly people who need around-the-clock support. With STEPS’ years of service in the community, we know how to navigate this process without sacrificing the autonomy and quality of life of our participants.”

ILO is an NDIS-funded support model that helps participants design the assistance they need to live in a home of their choice, whether that means living independently, with housemates or in a host arrangement. Funding is accessible under ‘Individualised Living Options – Exploration and Design’ within a participant’s NDIS plan, or individuals can choose to self-fund.

A dedicated ILO Coordinator will guide STEPS participants through each stage of the process to design and implement a personalised support model.

“Everyone needs a home in which they feel safe and supported – these are not luxuries, but basic aspects of a fulfilling life,” Ms Bowtell said.

STEPS has had the privilege of providing trusted and empowering disability support services to our communities for the past 40 years. With upcoming framework changes being introduced by the NDIS later this year, STEPS encourages prospective participants to reach out to their team and connect with the service or program that will best suit your needs and goals.

STEPS ILO is available on the Sunshine Coast, with services based in Caloundra and extending to Maroochydore and Nambour. Prospective participants, referrers and NDIS service professionals are encouraged to call the STEPS Customer Care Team on 1300 131 965 or visit the STEPS ILO webpage for more information.
