10 days to go – til mountaintop cocktails, alpaca picnics, flavour trails and a sunset session with Tim Freedman

Here’s your guide on how to shake and stir, sip and pick across the first weekend of Scenic Rim Eat Local Month - May 29, 30 and 31 imagery here

That rumble in your belly? That’s because Scenic Rim Eat Local Month officially begins in just 10 days! Create your own signature gin, rum or amaro, picnic beside alpacas, shake and stir botanical cocktails, ride between providores on an e-bike flavour trail and celebrate under the stars with Australian music icon of The Whitlams fame, Tim Freedman and The Moonlit Deck: the opening weekend of Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is serving up a delicious reminder that some of Queensland’s best food and drink experiences are hiding just beyond the city skyline.

Across Canungra, Tamborine Mountain and Beechmont, visitors can explore cellar doors and providores tucked among the ancient World Heritage-listed Gondwana rainforests, sip artisan spirits and cool-climate wines, and follow flavour trails celebrating the region’s incredible local makers. Add waterfalls, walking trails, galleries and sweeping mountain vistas, and it becomes the perfect winter weekend escape just an hour from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Kicking things off on Friday 29 May is one of the festival’s standout new events, the Ride, Gather and Graze Picnic Trail with Peddly Picnics. This self-guided e-bike experience winds through Tamborine Mountain, stopping at local producers, distillers and makers before finishing with a local picnic overflowing with Scenic Rim produce at Robert Sowter Park.

On Saturday 30 May, farm and food fans can choose their own flavour-filled adventure.

At the multi-award-winning Tamborine Mountain Distillery, craft spirit lovers can create their own personalised bottle of rum, gin, vodka or schnapps during the hands-on Craft Spirit Distilling Workshop with head distiller Gordon Chalmers.

Meanwhile, over at O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyards, guests can settle in creekside for the Artisan Picnic and Alpaca Experience, a relaxed afternoon of local produce, wine paddles and gentle strolls with alpacas through the vineyard grounds.

For cocktail lovers, the Loborn Tasting Bar hosts the Modern Apéritifs Cocktail Class, where guests will shake, stir and sip botanical creations alongside head distiller Tom Drewett.

Then, as the sun sets across Tamborine Mountain, the now-famous Spirit of the Mountain event returns to Cauldron Distillery, headlined by legendary Australian musician of The Whitlams fame, Tim Freedman performing with his 4 piece band  the Moonlight Deck. Expect live music, mountain views, signature cocktails and locally inspired dishes in one of the region’s most atmospheric settings.

Sunday 31 May slows the pace slightly - but not the flavour.

Guests at the Citrus Liqueur Crafting Workshop at Tamborine Mountain Distillery can pick fresh fruit straight from the orchard before blending and bottling their own citrus creation to take home.

For a long and lazy afternoon, Beechmont Estate hosts Feast in the Fields, a relaxed grazing experience featuring roaming food stations, local beverages, live music and spectacular hinterland views.

For something delightfully different, the Loborn Tasting Bar’s Cupcake Bouquets and Cocktails combines botanical cocktails with edible floral cupcake decorating in a colourful, hands-on afternoon that’s equal parts delicious and Instagram-worthy.

In 2026, the famous Scenic Rim Eat Local Month celebrates 15 flavour-filled years, proving that what begins as a small seed of an idea can grow into a mighty harvest. Having started as a celebration of the region’s farmers and producers, it has flourished into Australia’s most authentic paddock-to-plate food and farming event, and a Gold Award winner for Excellence in Food Tourism at the 2025 Queensland Tourism Awards.

Across 153 events – the biggest program to date - including 51 new experiences, the growers, farmers, makers, chefs and flavour masters of the Scenic Rim are once again throwing open their gates, kitchens and paddocks across all of June. This year's program features 42 On Farm Adventures, 40 Lunches and Dinners (think: mountaintops, paddocks, long tables, intimate tastings), 48 Family Friendly events and 62 Workshops and Experiences.

Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is proudly presented by Scenic Rim Regional Council, with support from major partners Moffatt Fresh Produce and CamperMate, and supporting partners Kalfresh Vegetables, Urban Utilities, Community Bank Kalbar and District, Brisbane Economic Development Agency, Allclass Kubota, and 612 ABC Radio Brisbane. The event is also supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland's Destination Events Program.
