On Monday 4th May, more than 100 mothers gathered beneath the paperbark trees of Paperbark Grove to celebrate the official launch of Villagehood - a new community-led app designed to help mums find their village in real life.

The event was officially welcomed by Sarah Swan, Mayor of Woollahra, who opened the morning by acknowledging the importance of community for modern mothers and celebrating the launch of a platform designed to support it.

Set within the natural beauty of Centennial Park, the Mother’s Day Picnic brought to life the very essence of what Villagehood stands for: connection, support, and community during one of life’s most transformative stages.

From the moment guests arrived, the space was intentionally designed to feel calm, nurturing and welcoming — a place where mothers could walk in and instantly feel supported, held and understood.

Bringing the Village to Life

Rather than a traditional event, the morning was curated as a living, breathing “village” - with thoughtfully designed spaces that supported both mums and their little ones.

The event was opened by Woollahra Mayor Sarah Swan, who welcomed mums & acknowledged the importance of mums having a village.

At the heart of the experience was The Nourishment Table, where Nourishing Bubs served organic meals for toddlers, complemented by beautifully designed safe secure toddler seating from Tot Haus.

Nearby, The Styling Space offered mothers a moment to reconnect with themselves, with Lenelly The Label providing personal styling tailored to postpartum bodies with a gorgeous fashion line.

A standout activation saw Nuna Baby partner with Sydney BMW to gift fresh flower bouquets to mums on arrival, alongside complimentary baby car seat checks by Baby and Car & Sydney Mini Cooper.

For little ones, a dedicated Kids Play Space hosted by Blossoms Play featured gentle, sensory-based activities.

Meanwhile, a calming sanctuary within the village offered sound healing sessions by Bess and on-site doula support from Janine of Blossoms Doula Care - reinforcing the event’s deeper intention of care, support and emotional wellbeing.

A Modern Solution to Maternal Loneliness

With studies showing that up to 80–90% of new mothers experience feelings of loneliness, Villagehood launches at a time when the need for meaningful connection has never been more urgent.

As society shifts away from purely digital interactions and toward community-driven movements - from run clubs to local meetups - Villagehood brings this same cultural momentum into motherhood.

For founder Brittany Bloomer, the mission is deeply personal.

“We’re seeing such a strong return to real-life connection — but for mothers, this isn’t just a trend, it’s essential. Villagehood exists to make sure no mum has to navigate motherhood alone.”

How the App Works

Villagehood is a geo-based community platform helping mums connect locally through real-time meet-ups, picnics, pram walks and shared experiences.

Built to “bring back the village,” Villagehood creates simple, meaningful ways for mothers to find support, friendship and belonging in their neighbourhood.

Through the app, mums can:

  • Discover other mothers nearby in their neighbourhood

  • Join or host local meetups

  • Attend events like pram walks, coffee catch-ups and picnics

  • Build meaningful, real-life friendships

Built for Real Life, Not Just Online

Villagehood was built in-house by co-Founder & brother, Baron Bloomer, a former tech lead at Shopify and Soho House London.

“The goal was to design a platform that reduces friction and makes it easier for people to connect in real life,” Baron says.
“Instead of endless feeds or swiping based on appearances on profiles, we focused on simple tools that help mums say yes to a walk, a coffee or a local meetup based on their location.”

Shaped by Mums, for Mums

In the lead-up to launch, Villagehood operated in beta, onboarding over 1,000 mothers across Australia. Their feedback played a critical role in shaping the app - ensuring it reflects the real needs of modern motherhood.

A Growing Movement

The Mother’s Day Picnic wasn’t just an event - it was a reflection of a much larger cultural shift.

As adults navigate what many describe as a “friendship recession,” Villagehood sits at the intersection of technology, wellbeing and real-world connection, offering a scalable solution to a deeply human need.

And if the turnout at Centennial Park was any indication, the village is already forming.
