“Be the hope our community desperately needs right now”

Support the Toowoomba community through The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal this year

The Salvation Army in Toowoomba is calling on locals to dig deep and get involved in the Red Shield Appeal this year, raising vital funds to support those in our local region who are doing it tough.

Australia’s largest and longest-running door-knock appeal is in its 62nd year and aims to raise $41 million nationally, which funds life-changing community programs across the country.

“We know that people are doing it really tough in our community right now, as global uncertainty coupled with further increases in the cost of living locally puts an incredible strain on individuals and families. We know that many are on the edge of breaking point as they struggle to make ends meet,” said Captain Aaron Reid, leaders of The Salvation Army at Toowoomba.

“That is why we are calling on those in Toowoomba to dig deep, get involved in the Red Shield Appeal, and be the hope our community desperately needs right now.”

The funds raised for the Red Shield Appeal will support people within the Toowoomba community and surrounds and will be used to meet the needs faced by those who are struggling and need a hand.

“There is no better way to support those doing it tough than by donating or volunteering with us this year. We can’t do our work in the community without you, so we are calling on people to partner with The Salvation Army this Red Shield Appeal and see the powerful transformation that takes place when we come together to support our fellow Aussies in need,” Captain Aaron Reid added.

The Red Shield Appeal continues to the end of June.  The Salvos across the country are aiming to recruit an army of 15,000 volunteers for the Red Shield Appeal this year, so please reach out to your local Salvos to find out more about volunteering opportunities by visiting salvationarmy.org.au/red-shield-appeal

Cost of living emergency forcing women to stay in unsafe relationships and vulnerable Australians into homelessness – Salvos call for kindness this End of Financial Year

24th June 2026 Cost of living emergency forcing women to stay in unsafe relationships and vulnerable Australians into homelessness Salvos call for kindness this End of Financial Year New Salvation Army research shows the hidden human toll of the current financial crisis, with 30% of women surveyed saying they stayed in or delayed leaving an unsafe relationship because they could not afford to leave, while one in six (16%) had couch surfed or lived in their car in the past year. As pressure on households intensifies, the research points to a growing deficit of kindness across the country. The Salvos…

Leukaemia Foundation labels Queensland Government’s review of the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme incomplete

The Leukaemia Foundation has described the Crisafulli LNP Government’s announced fuel subsidy increase from 34c to 45c per kilometre as a welcome but ultimately incomplete step for regional Queenslanders who need to travel for life saving treatment. Regional cancer patients continue to face severe financial hardship due to a stagnant accommodation subsidy that has failed to keep pace with the real-world costs of travel. The Foundation is calling on the Queensland Government to deliver a long-overdue uplift to the current $70 nightly rate. Leukaemia Foundation Chief Executive Officer Chris Tanti warned that an 11-cent increase to fuel costs ‘barely touches…
