The ‘final siren’ is imminent for cult brand Barry’s equity crowd-sourced funding opportunity in collaboration with OnMarket, with the record-smashing campaign closing at 11.59pm on Wednesday 10 June.
Founded by high profile AFL players Bailey Smith, Nick Daicos, Josh Daicos and Charlie Curnow, and backed by an impressive board including Peter Filipovic (ex-CEO CUB), Leigh Rowe (Paramount Liquor), Robbie D’Orazio (Partner CDG Sports) and CEO Chris Pang, Barry’s spirit-based seltzers are stocked at more than 995 Liquorland stores and will soon range across Dan Murphy’s and BWS.
Eyeing an ambitious target to further expand distribution and investment in commercial partners, the ‘raise’ has received a strong response from interested investors and broken OnMarket’s record – twice – for single-day sign-ups during the expression of interest (EOI) phase.
“The level of engagement has been exceptionally strong, with Barry recording the largest single-day number of sign-ups we’ve seen for an expression of interest campaign on the OnMarket platform to date,” said Tim Eisenhauer, Managing Director of OnMarket.
The last 24 hours of the campaign is anticipated to see another surge, based on OnMarket’s data from previous crowd-sourced funding opportunities showing that up to 30% of investors jump on board in the final hours before the deadline.
Barry CEO Chris Pang (ex-COO Frank Body) said the response has been incredibly promising and shows that the Barry community is keen to keep the brand in the hands of fans.
“The groundswell of support has been phenomenal and it’s clear that people can recognise the potential of the business – hitting $3.68 million in revenue last financial year and achieving profitability and massive consumer demand for our product and brand,” he said.
“We have the growth profile that traditional private equity looks for, but we deliberately chose crowd-sourced funding. Our community has built Barry from day one and it's important to us that they get to share its future.
“The business is in a prime position to provide opportunity to genuine investors as well as people who have made an authentic connection with the brand from when we first started – they will be issued with ordinary shares and be legitimate shareholders.”
From just $250, people can become part of the Barry community as a shareholder. Barry shareholders can access exclusive investor rewards for investments from $350, including opportunities to meet and dine with the player-founders (the Daicos brothers, Bailey Smith and Charlie Curnow) for $10K–$50K investors.
Some additional key stats about the ready to drink (RTD) market and Barry's success to date:
- the Australian RTD market is worth $5 billion, growing 15% year-on-year
- Gen Z has the strongest customer penetration of this category
- as well as its large retail footprint, Barry has an on-premise network of 350+ pubs, with over 2.5 million can sales and almost 1 million litres poured in the second year of production
