HOW TO “COZEY UP” YOUR HOME THIS WINTER: DESIGNERS SHARE THEIR COLD-SEASON EDIT

As temperatures drop and Australians spend more time indoors, creating a warm, inviting home has never been more important.

As winter settles in, the home naturally becomes a place of retreat, rest and connection. This seasonal shift is increasingly reflected in interior design, with Australians gravitating toward softer materials, warmer palettes and flexible furniture that supports both quiet moments and social gatherings.

This winter, cult-favourite Canadian furniture brand Cozey brought this to life through its exclusive Australian-first Home of Cozey in Bondi, showcasing how to “cozey up” your space with considered furniture, tactile styling and perspectives from leading local designers.

“There are definite similarities between North American and Australian interiors in winter, particularly around the desire for comfort and spaces that feel lived-in. Both are design-focused, quality-driven markets,” said Edmund Lam, Vice President of Brand and Creative Direction at Cozey.

“But Australian homes still tend to prioritise openness and softness. It’s less about completely changing a home for the season, and more about introducing warmth through texture, shape and atmosphere.”

Rather than leaning into heavy seasonal styling, the Australian Home of Cozey embraced a more understated approach to winter living. The space reflected the relaxed nature of Australian homes while creating rooms that felt warm, intimate and inviting.

Local designers and stylists were invited to interpret this through their own lens, using Cozey furniture and styling pieces to create rooms that encouraged slowing down, entertaining and everyday comfort.

Their top winter styling advice and favourite Cozey pieces include:

  •  Marcus Hay, interior stylist
Interior stylist Marcus Hay explored a richer, moodier palette, incorporating the Gaia Sofa in Sage, inspired by the earthy tones and tactile layering seen throughout recent Milan Design Week collections.

“The overall aesthetic balances refined simplicity with warmth and character, creating an interior that feels curated, relaxed and quietly cinematic,” said Hay.

The Gaia 6-Seater Sofa in Sage is available from RRP $2,870.

  • Laura Cave, content creator and stylist
Laura Cave leaned into a softer, more calming interpretation of winter interiors. Her room centred around the Ara Bed in Silken Sand, with neutral tones, layered bedding and tactile textures designed to evoke a sense of retreat and stillness.

“Everything feels timeless, comfortable and effortlessly chic, while still making the room feel really relaxed and like somewhere you want to slow down,” said Cave.

“I love pieces that not only look beautiful in a space, but also act as the perfect base to style throughout different seasons.”

The Ara Bed in Silken Sand is available from RRP $1,585.

  • Kirsten Stanwix, interior designer
Interior designer Kirsten Stanwix selected the Stella Coffee Table in Walnut to reflect the relaxed, design-conscious Australian lifestyle, creating a versatile and multifunctional room that speaks to the changing way Australians are using their homes.

The Stella Coffee Table in Walnut is available from RRP $430.

The Caleb Rug also brought warmth and texture into the home, helping to soften open-plan spaces while complementing the earthy palette and relaxed atmosphere seen throughout the Australian Home of Cozey.

The Caleb Rug is available from RRP $130.

“The response to the Australian Home of Cozey showed just how much people are craving homes that feel comfortable, personal and easy to live in,” said Frederic Aubé, Founder and CEO of Cozey.

“There’s a real shift toward designing spaces that support the way people want to live day-to-day, especially during winter. Bringing Cozey to Australia feels like a natural next chapter. We’re not just launching a product range here; we’re opening a home of possibilities.”
