Tomorrow 30 July, public libraries across New South Wales will throw open their doors as part of Open Doors, Open Books, Open Minds, a statewide celebration showcasing the incredible role libraries play in connecting communities, inspiring lifelong learning and enriching lives.
From storytimes and family activities to author talks, workshops, exhibitions and behind-the-scenes experiences, libraries of all sizes will welcome visitors to discover everything their local library has to offer.
NSW Public Libraries Association President Romola Hollywood said the day is an opportunity to celebrate libraries as vibrant, welcoming spaces that belong to everyone.
"Public libraries are so much more than places to borrow books. They are community hubs where people come together to learn, create, connect and belong," Ms Hollywood said.
"Whether you're a regular visitor or haven't stepped into a library for years, tomorrow is the perfect opportunity to open the door and discover something new. Libraries offer free access to knowledge, technology, lifelong learning, children's programs, local history, digital resources and welcoming spaces for everyone."
The statewide initiative celebrates the diversity of library services available across New South Wales and shines a spotlight on the dedicated staff who work every day to support their communities.
"Every library will be celebrating in its own unique way, reflecting the interests and needs of its local community. We're excited to see the creativity, enthusiasm and community spirit on display across the state," Ms Hollywood said.
Open Doors, Open Books, Open Minds also highlights the important role libraries play in supporting early literacy, lifelong learning, digital inclusion, social connection and community wellbeing.
The NSW Public Libraries Association encourages everyone to visit their local library tomorrow, meet their library team, participate in the day's activities and experience firsthand why libraries continue to be one of the most valued public services in our communities.
