U.S. film-maker Abby Martin sell-out national film tour underway
Prominent US journalist and film-maker Abby Martin is touring Australia over the next 10 days, with screenings of her new film Earth's Greatest Enemy selling out in many capital cities.
The movie, which exposes the extraordinary contribution of the US military to carbon emissions and climate change, was described by Oliver Stone as “one of the most powerful documentaries I’ve seen on the modern American military.”
"The Pentagon is the world’s single largest institutional polluter—spewing carbon, contaminating water, and scarring landscapes across the globe," Martin says. "This film is a five-year project. It's an intervention in the environmental movement, it's a tool for action and organising and movement building."
"The imperialist, chauvinist nature of US militarism has reared its ugly face under Trump, and it has never been more exposed. So are we in or out? Do we want a habitable future? Do we want our species to survive? Take the truth, and let it embolden you."
The film tour takes place amid rising Australian opposition to the US alliance, the genocide in Gaza and the wars in Iran and Lebanon, and the announcement of a high-profile public inquiry into the floundering AUKUS agreement. Polling in 2026 shows increasing public discontent with Australia's complicity in the United States government's increasingly violent and erratic global conduct.
"For many years, peace and anti-militarism organisers, arms trade activists, climate and environmental campaigners have worked in isolation from each other rather than working together," said IPAN National Chairperson Annette Brownlie. "This film tour is the catalyst bringing us together to confront a common enemy: the bloated and polluting military-industrial complex."
Abby Martin's tour is sponsored by IPAN, the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network, and hosted by a wide coalition of peace, justice, climate and environmental campaign groups.
