Construction begins on landmark VerSo Place community

Keyton 2 mins read

Keyton has officially commenced construction of VerSo Place, its major Vermont South

retirement living community that will deliver 218 new homes for seniors, create local

jobs and transform a long-dormant site into a vibrant new precinct for Melbourne's east.

Once complete, VerSo Place will be home to more than 300 residents in a vertical

community with range of accommodation options, premium amenities and landscaped

green spaces. The former Australian Road Research Board heritage building will be

restored as a central hub for the community.

The development will generate employment during construction and create ongoing

local jobs in village management, maintenance, health and wellbeing services. It will

also provide much-needed housing choice for older Australians while helping free up

larger family homes in established suburbs for young families.

VerSo Place is expected to welcome its first residents in 2028.

The milestone was celebrated with a ‘sod-turning’ event attended by Keyton staff,

representatives of our builder, Ironside, project partners and local elected officials,

Matthew Gregg MP, Federal Member for Deakin and Councillor Jarrod Gun of

Whitehorse Council.

"VerSo Place is one of the most significant retirement living developments currently

underway in Victoria and reflects our commitment to shaping the future of retirement

living,” Jason Fitzgerald, Keyton’s Head of Development said.

"This community has been carefully designed around wellbeing, connection,

sustainability and independence, creating an environment where residents can live

active and fulfilling lives."

Keyton’s acting CEO Paul Martin said "This project will deliver much-needed housing

choice for older Australians, while supporting housing mobility across the broader

community.

“By providing high-quality downsizing options like VerSo Place, we are helping put larger

family homes back on the market for future generations."

Federal Member for Deakin, Matt Gregg MP said, "Providing greater housing choice for

older people in our community helps them remain connected to the people and places

they value, while creating more housing opportunities for families."

“This project will be transformative for the neighbourhood and will rehabilitate a

building of significant local heritage,” Cr Jarrod Gunn said.

“The inclusion of high-quality housing set amongst the immediate natural surrounds,

along with the retention of high value local trees, makes for a development that

contributes to the vitality, sustainability and diversity of our local community."

Paul Martin, Keyton’s acting CEO concluded: "Keyton is proud to be transforming this

site into a vibrant new community that will make a positive contribution to the local area

for decades to come."
