The Pacific Islands Forum 2026 Media Briefing by Greenpeace Australia Pacific is attached
FRIDAY 28 August 2026 — The 55th Pacific Islands Forum begins on Monday, 31 August, in Koror, Palau (Belau) and will run until Thursday, 3 September, under the theme B.E.L.A.U – Building Economies: Life. Action. Unity.
The Forum brings together Pacific leaders from 18 member states, including Australia, to discuss and agree on policies to benefit the people of the Pacific region. The road to COP31, advancing the vision of a Fossil Fuel Free Pacific, funding for the Pacific Resilience Facility, and keeping 1.5°C alive through accelerating the global phase out of fossil fuels will be high on the agenda when leaders, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, meet next week.
Greenpeace Australia Pacific has Pacific and Australian spokespeople available in Palau throughout the week who can offer expert insights, analysis and comments from the Forum:
Shiva Gounden, Head of Pacific at Greenpeace Australia Pacific, can discuss key Forum agenda items and updates related to climate policy and the environment, what Australia must do to make good on its relationship with the Pacific, Pacific leadership on climate and ocean, and offer a Pacific perspective on Forum outcomes.
