Minuteman Press Franchise Owner Rod Hambley talks career change from banking to the printing industry and shares insights on 21 years of business ownership.
CANNINGTON, Western Australia – Rod Hambley is the owner of the Minuteman Press franchise in Cannington, Western Australia since January of 2005. After attending the President’s Club Outing, Rod was eager to celebrate his President’s Club Award with his team back home at his centre. Rod says, “Joining the President’s Club is a fantastic achievement that we worked hard to accomplish. It was a wonderful experience meeting so many fellow President’s Club members and celebrating alongside them. Bringing the award home to share with my incredible team and RVP Glenn Coyle (who has been with me since the beginning) made the accomplishment even more meaningful.”
Glenn Coyle says, “I first met Rod in New York in January 2005 when we attended the same training school. He was new to the printing industry, but that never fazed him. Over the past 22 years, I've had the privilege of watching his journey from building the business from the ground up to growing it through smart marketing, hard work, and a commitment to success. His two acquisitions over the past few years were the icing on the cake, helping him reach the President's Club. It's been incredibly rewarding to watch Rod achieve so much and to play a small part in his success with Minuteman Press.”
Keys to Growth & Success
Over the past 21 years, Rod has steadily grown Minuteman Press in Cannington by focusing on personal relationships, consistent marketing, exceptional service, and strategic expansion. He credits several core strategies for the continued growth of his business:
- “Door-to-door marketing: Building the business one customer at a time through face-to-face outreach and relationship building.
- Networking: Developing long-term connections within the local business community that continue to generate opportunities.
- Strategic acquisitions: Expanding the customer base and strengthening the business through two successful acquisitions in recent years.
- Outstanding service: Earning repeat business and referrals by consistently providing dependable service, quality products, and on-time delivery.”
Marketing That Works
Today, Rod's marketing efforts are centered on a combination of digital visibility and customer loyalty. He says, “We use Internet marketing, maintaining a strong online presence so new customers can easily find the business. Word-of-mouth referrals are also big for us. It means we are delivering such a positive customer experience that satisfied clients continue recommending Minuteman Press to others.”
From Banking to Business Ownership
Before joining Minuteman Press, Rod spent 25 years in the banking industry. Despite consistently delivering top sales results, he saw that advancement opportunities had become limited. Rod says, ““After 25 years in banking, including many years as a Branch Manager, I could see the bank was promoting younger, less experienced people to the next level despite my record sales and results. I attended a Business Expo in 2004, where I discovered the Minuteman Press opportunity. I made the decision to invest later that year and officially opened my business in January 2005.”
Rod says the Minuteman Press International training program gave him a strong foundation for success. “Over the years, I’ve continued to benefit from the support of RVP Glenn Coyle and the Minuteman Press support network whenever needed.”
For over two decades, Rod has built Minuteman Press in Cannington by serving businesses that value quality, reliability, and personal service. Rod shares, “We are active with clients who want quality service at a reasonable price but not the lowest price. We build long-term relationships and add a personal touch through our consistent customer service and delivery.”
Rewards & Advice for Others
For Rod, the greatest reward of business ownership “has been building a successful company that provides security for my family while creating a strong foundation for the future and eventual retirement.” His advice for others is to simply “work hard and prosper!”
