Birkbeck, University of London, have announced the appointment of Professor Lawrence Pratchett as Provost of Birkbeck, University of London – Bengaluru.
Professor Pratchett has more than 30 years of international experience in higher education across Australia, the United Kingdom and India, including 15 years in executive leadership roles. He brings extensive academic, strategic and operational expertise to Birkbeck Bengaluru as the campus establishes its position within India’s growing international higher education landscape.
With a career defined by strategic leadership in international higher education, Professor Pratchett previously served as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Faculty Dean at the University of Canberra and holds a PhD in Political Science and Government from De Montfort University. He has built a strong reputation for pioneering transnational education operations, including new ventures in Singapore and Bhutan, and for driving international student recruitment and engagement across multiple markets, including India.
As Provost, Professor Pratchett will provide strategic and academic leadership for Birkbeck Bengaluru, with a focus on research-informed education, student success, industry engagement and high-impact international partnerships. He will help combine Birkbeck’s rigorous teaching and quality standards with a deep understanding of international education markets and the opportunities presented by Bengaluru’s dynamic technology and business ecosystem.
