Solar, wind and batteries driving down wholesale electricity prices show we’re on the right track: Climate Council

Climate Council < 1 min read

In response to the latest report from Australian Energy Regulator (AER) on the electricity market, Climate Council CEO Amanda McKenzie said:

“The evidence just keeps stacking up that solar and wind, backed by batteries, is driving power prices down.

“It’s economics at work: put more of the lowest cost electricity into the system and you drive power prices down.

“This underscores exactly why we need to crack on with the rollout of renewables to replace the ageing coal clunkers that keep breaking down, and causing price spikes. Slowing down means higher bills, and more harmful climate pollution.

“This is just the latest proof point that we need to get on with it.”

Senate inquiry an opportunity to renew national focus on hepatitis C testing and treatment

Hepatitis Australia says the Senate inquiry into Australia’s contaminated blood scandal should be an opportunity to strengthen efforts to identify and treat hepatitis C wherever people may be at risk. As reported by the ABC, the Senate this week voted to establish an inquiry into the circumstances that saw thousands of Australians acquire hepatitis C or HIV through contaminated blood products and blood transfusions from the 1970s to the 1990s. Hepatitis Australia said the inquiry would rightly examine the experiences of people affected by historical transmission, while also providing an important opportunity to renew the national focus on hepatitis C…
