Work from Home legislation delay welcomed by Victorian Chamber

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry < 1 min read

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes Premier Carroll’s decision to delay debate on the Work From Home Bill.

The business community has been clear that the Bill is unnecessary and sends the wrong signal to businesses and investors at a time where economic conditions are weak and Victoria’s unemployment is the highest in the nation.

We welcome the opportunity to work with Premier Carroll and his government to address widespread business concerns that the current legislation will create a costly, complex, and unworkable system.

A delay alone is not enough; the Government must now work with business to restore confidence in the Victorian economy and ensure any legislation advanced by Government aligns with this critical need. This matters for all Victorians as a strong economy provides the investment, business and jobs that households rely upon.

To be attributed to Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Sally Curtain:

“We welcome the Premier’s decision to pause the debate of this divisive legislation, and to listen to our members.”

“The Victorian Chamber maintains that the Bill must be scrapped, as it is completely unnecessary, costly and burdensome for Victorian businesses.”

“The Premier has been in touch with us directly and has indicated he is willing to meet with us. We hope to persuade him to abandon this destructive course.”

“As it stands, this legislation remains a profound risk to our state's economy.”

Release the modelling: family business calls for open discussion on tax reform

Key Facts: The Family Business Association is urging the Government to release its economic modelling behind proposed minimum tax reforms on discretionary trusts before the consultation deadline of 18 September, including revenue estimates and the number of businesses affected. The Association argues that each revision to the policy has increased complexity rather than reduced it, leaving family business owners navigating multiple options — including fixed-distribution elections, rollovers, and minimum tax — at significant adviser cost.Family businesses, which represent around 70% of all Australian businesses and employ 50% of the workforce, rely on discretionary trusts to manage variable income, succession planning, and…

Sydney Aluminium Windows and Doors Suppliers for 2026: Comparing RS, Austech, Sydney Aluminium, Abbey Aluminium and B&W

This editorial comparison considers product range, customisation, thermal pathways, large-opening options, technical information and the route from quotation to completion. It is not a laboratory test, customer-review ranking or claim that one company is universally superior. Energy performance must be assessed at whole-window level. The Australian Government's guidance on windowsexplains that frames and glazing both influence heat transfer, and that a thermally broken aluminium frame uses a non-conductive barrier between its internal and external profiles. Buyers should therefore request values for the quoted frame, glass, size and configuration rather than relying on a general product-family statement. The AGWA Window and…
