15 years of iconic Perth sunsets, reunions with friends, adorably awkward first dates, office party nights out, Christmas catch-ups, cult movie obsessions and unreal scenes under the Southern Cross. Rooftop Movies is celebrating 15
summers above Northbridge, and tickets for the first program of its 2026/27 season are officially on sale.
Since Rooftop Movies first opened above Northbridge in 2012, the Perth skyline has changed, new buildings have appeared on the horizon and plenty has happened in the beanbags below it: first dates that became second dates (and some that absolutely did not), birthdays, work Christmas parties and long-overdue reunions.
Presented by ARTRAGE, the Western Australian arts organisation behind FRINGE WORLD Festival, Rooftop Movies has had a front-row seat to Perth city changing around it for 15 summers. And this summer, we’re doing it all again.
Tickets for Rooftop Movies Program 1 are on sale from 22 September, with the 15th anniversary season running from 28 October 2026 to 14 March 2027.
Program 1 brings new releases, cult favourites, literary adaptations, Christmas classics and special event screenings to the Perth skyline, alongside refreshed food and drinks and a few birthday surprises.
Because 15 years later, the movie is still only part of the plan.
15 SUMMERS DOWN
A lot has changed since 2012. Elizabeth Quay arrived. Yagan Square became our neighbour. The skyline continued to grow, reshaped by a changing city and the emergence of the ECU City campus. Northbridge welcomed new bars, restaurants and late-night institutions.
For 15 years, Rooftop Movies has been part of the Northbridge night out: somewhere between knock-off drinks and the last train home.
You can watch a movie anywhere. But dinner, drinks, a ridiculous Perth sunset and a film under the stars with the city glowing in front of you? That’s Rooftop Movies.
DOLLY, DARLINGS
The season kicks off on 28 October with 9 to 5 and a special celebration of Dolly Parton, featuring a performance from local FRINGE favourite BarbieQ and celebrating a film and an icon loved across generations.
CULT FAVOURITES COME OUT AFTER DARK
Halloween brings another much-loved icon back to the big screen, with The Rocky Horror Picture Show returning to the Roof. Dress-ups are highly encouraged, with this year’s screening also giving fans an opportunity to come together and celebrate the late Tim Curry and his unforgettable performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. For generations, Rocky Horror has been about more than watching a movie. It’s participation, self-expression and finding a crowd of people who love something just as much as you do.
Then on 31 October, Ghostface gets one of Perth’s better vantage points when Scream takes over Halloween night, complete with costumes and a Halloween photo moment.
New release Resident Evil joins the spooky proceedings, while Practical Magic 2 brings the witchy energy.
BOOK CLUB IS REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
This one’s for everyone whose book club is approximately 40% books and 60% group chat.
Program 1 has a stacked line-up of stories making their way from bookshelf to big screen, including Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility and Colleen Hoover’s Verity.
Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun also heads upstairs, while Practical Magic 2 draws from Alice Hoffman’s The Book of Magic.
BIG NAMES ON THE BIG SCREEN
There’s plenty for everyone else in the group chat too.
Program 1 features Brad Pitt in Heart of the Beast, Tom Cruise in Digger, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett in Verity, Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton in The Invite, and Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams in Klara and the Sun.
CHRISTMAS, BUT MAKE IT PERTH
Forget snow. Rooftop Movies is going all-in on warm-weather Christmas traditions.
This season, we’re inviting Perth families and friends to embrace the southern-hemisphere Christmas and make a summer night on the Roof part of their annual Chrissy tradition - swapping snowy backdrops for balmy nights, iconic pink Perth skies and city lights.
SOMETHING HOT, GOLDEN & GLORIOUSLY MELTY IS COMING TO THE ROOF
The Roof is getting a birthday glow-up too, with new food and beverage options landing for the 2026/27 season.
New food vendor Top Notch Toasties serving up hot, golden, gloriously melty classic that makes so much sense for movie night we’re questioning why it took us 15 years.
A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE FOR PERTH
After 15 years of Perth showing up for Rooftop Movies, this season we’re looking at how we can help more of Perth get up here too.
We’ve got a special birthday joint-initiative that will put community access at its heart, removing the ticket-price barrier for part of the program.
We’re keeping the movies and details quiet for now, but there are some very familiar films involved - and this is one announcement worth keeping an eye on.
