CIMIC Group company UGL has been awarded a contract by APA Group for the Sybella Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Mount Isa, Queensland.

Under the contract, UGL will deliver the engineering design, procurement, construction and commissioning of a 72MW solar farm and a 52MW / 104MWh battery energy storage system.

The project supports APA Group's investment in new renewable energy infrastructure for Queensland's North West Minerals Province, providing a lower-emissions and reliable energy solution for the region.

CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Jason Spears said:

“UGL continues to demonstrate its leadership in the delivery of renewable energy generation and storage infrastructure across Australia.

“This project will support energy security and economic growth in North Queensland while contributing to Australia's energy transition.”

UGL Managing Director Sam Goldsmith said:

“UGL's strong relationship with APA Group has been established through the successful delivery of projects including APA’s Dugald River Solar Farm and the Port Hedland Battery Energy Storage System.

“We are proud to continue supporting clients with the delivery of critical energy infrastructure that will help power Australia's future.”

Sybella will be UGL’s 16th solar farm and 12th battery energy storage system project further strengthening its position as a leader in renewable energy generation and storage.

Construction is anticipated to commence in late 2026, with completion expected in mid-2028.
