FROM THE REGIONS TO THE CAPITAL: QUEENSLAND COUNTRY BANK OPENS BRISBANE CENTRE

Queensland Treasurer officially opens Queensland Country Bank Centre Brisbane as growing Queensland-owned bank strengthens its southern network

From its beginnings in Mount Isa to its headquarters in Townsville, Queensland Country Bank has marked another major milestone in its growth, officially opening and naming its new Brisbane home, Queensland Country Bank Centre Brisbane at 247 Adelaide Street in the heart of Brisbane’s Golden Triangle.

The building was officially opened by Queensland Treasurer, the Hon. David Janetzki MP, alongside Queensland Country Bank CEO Aaron Newman, cementing the Bank’s growing presence in the state’s capital.

Queensland Country Bank purchased the six-level, 3,044sqm building as part of its long-term growth strategy, creating a permanent Brisbane base while maintaining its proud North Queensland headquarters in Townsville.

Today, 62 administration and management employees and 10 Brisbane branch staff call Queensland Country Bank Centre Brisbane home, bringing together the Bank’s CBD branch and Brisbane-based teams under one roof. The Centre will also act as a key hub supporting Queensland Country Bank’s growing Southern Queensland network of branches at Beaudesert, Booval, Brisbane, Jimboomba, Maleny, Maroochydore, Riverlink, Stanthorpe and Virginia.

Mr Newman said the official opening represented much more than a new name on a Brisbane building.

“This is another important chapter in the Queensland Country Bank story,” Mr Newman said. “We were born in Mount Isa, we remain proudly headquartered in Townsville, and today we are strengthening our presence in Brisbane and Southern Queensland as we continue to grow with our Members and communities,” he said. “When we purchased 247 Adelaide Street, we saw it as an investment in the future of Queensland Country Bank. Today, seeing our name on the building, our people working here and our Brisbane branch welcoming Members through the doors, that future is becoming a reality.”

Queensland Country Bank has grown from its regional Queensland beginnings to become a member-owned bank with more than 100,000 Members, hundreds of employees and a branch network stretching across the state.

“Our ambition has never been to become another big bank. It is to become Queensland’s best regional bank, one that can grow while remaining genuinely connected to the people and places we serve,” he said. “Having a permanent home in the Brisbane CBD gives our teams the capacity and connectivity to support our expanding southern branch network while keeping decision-making, jobs and investment here in Queensland. It means we can be bigger without losing what makes Queensland Country Bank different.”

The milestone comes during a period of continued growth and recognition for Queensland Country Bank, including expansion of its branch network into Maroochydore and its ongoing partnerships and investment in communities across the state. That commitment has been highlighted by an extraordinary response to the Bank’s latest Good for Good Community Grants, with a record 389 charities, sporting clubs, community groups and not-for-profit organisations applying for more than $8.27 million in funding in the 2026-27 round. Applications have more than tripled in just two years, reinforcing the growing need for community support across Queensland.

Over 20 years, Queensland Country Bank has awarded 682 Good for Good Community Grants and invested more than $3.27 million into community initiatives stretching from South East Queensland to Cape York, the North West and the state’s regional heartland.

“As we grow, so does our capacity to support Queenslanders,” Mr Newman said. “Being member-owned means our profits are reinvested into better products and services for our Members and into the communities we serve.

Queensland Country Bank’s Head Office remains proudly located at 333 Ross River Road, Aitkenvale in Townsville.

Australia’s co-working / workspace-as-a-service operators are now regulated under anti-money laundering laws, and most don’t know it

Key Facts: From 1 July 2026, Australian co-working, serviced office and virtual office operators that provide a registered office address as a service became regulated under anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) laws, yet most of the sector is unaware this applies to them. Regulated operators must enrol with AUSTRAC, appoint a compliance officer, complete a risk assessment, implement written AML/CTF policies, train staff, and carry out customer due diligence including identity verification, sanctions screening, and beneficial ownership checks. Tank Stream Labs, which operates eight workspace sites across Australia discovered it was in scope through a conversation with AML compliance…
