L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele Is Bringing One of Naples’ Most Beloved Cultural Traditions to Australia

Da Michele Sydney 2 mins read

Sydney’s iconic Neapolitan pizzeria, L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele, is bringing one of Naples’ most beloved cultural traditions to Australia, celebrating the Festa di San Gennaro on Saturday, September 19th.

For one day only, Da Michele will transform its restaurant into Sydney’s biggest Festa di San Gennaro celebration, bringing to life the traditions of Naples that have been at the heart of Da Michele since 1870. From 12pm to 10pm, guests can enjoy a special San Gennaro feast, with exclusive food and drink specials, live Italian music and a specially decorated venue inspired by the iconic Neapolitan celebration.

A Celebration of San Gennaro

The Festa di San Gennaro is one of Naples’ most important annual celebrations, honouring San Gennaro, the patron Saint of Naples. During the celebrations each year, the Saint’s blood is said to miraculously liquefy, a centuries-old tradition deeply woven into the city’s culture and faith.

“For us, celebrating San Gennaro is about bringing a piece of Naples’ traditions to Sydney. This is more than a special menu, it’s an opportunity to share the authenticity, energy and hospitality of our home with Australia,” says Da Michele representative Giuseppe Costagliola.

A San Gennaro Feast at Da Michele

At the heart of the celebration will be a special San Gennaro Pizza, created exclusively for the occasion and inspired by the traditions of the festival: Cappello di San Gennaro. The pizza will feature a San Gennaro crown shape, filled with ricotta, Provola cheese, Neapolitan crumbled sausage, and topped with a slow-cooked deep red tomato ragout paying homage to the melted blood of San Gennaro, available for $28.

Guests can also raise a glass to the patron Saint with a Bloody Gennaro, Da Michele’s limited-time take on the classic Bloody Mary, available for $18.

The celebration will extend beyond the plate, with an Italian musician performing throughout the day, bringing the sounds of Italy to the restaurant.

Da Michele has also partnered with much-loved Italian brands, such as illy serving complimentary Espresso and illy Crema, Sanpellegrino providing complimentary beverages, and Peroni offering special drink promotions for guests, with something for everyone to enjoy throughout the day.

Guests are encouraged to book their table online to join the celebration at DaMichele.com.au.
