NSW State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers will help thousands of The Hills residents get ready for storms, floods and other emergencies at the Sydney 000 Expo this weekend.
The family-friendly event will take over Castle Hill Showground on Sunday 13 September as the 2026-27 severe weather season begins, bringing local emergency services together to help the community understand and prepare for storms, floods, bushfires and other emergencies.
Visitors can watch live rescue demonstrations, explore emergency response displays and take part in hands-on activities while learning practical steps to protect their families and homes before disasters strike.
NSW SES The Hills Unit volunteers will share advice on emergency warnings, household emergency plans and simple property preparations residents can make ahead of severe weather.
NSW SES The Hills Unit Commander Matthieu Feray said the expo arrives at an opportune time for residents to act before the next storm hits.
“Our volunteers respond to emergencies across The Hills throughout the year, and we want residents to know how they can reduce the risks before severe weather hits,” Inspector Feray said.

“This expo brings The Hills community together, shares important knowledge and shows people how they can help keep themselves, their families and their neighbours safe,” Inspector Feray said.
NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Dan Evans said the event strengthens partnerships between local emergency services and helps build safer, more resilient communities.
“Preparedness can save lives, and the Sydney 000 Expo gives residents a great opportunity to meet their local emergency services and learn how to prepare,” Deputy Commissioner Evans said.
“We encourage everyone to come along, ask questions and leave with practical information they can use before the next storm, flood or emergency.”
The Expo will feature road crash rescue simulations by NSW SES Hawkesbury Unit, property preparedness demonstrations by NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Endeavour Energy electrical safety demonstrations.
Representatives from St John Ambulance, VRA Rescue NSW, NSW Police, Australian Federal Police, Fire and Rescue NSW, Australian Defence Force, Marine Rescue NSW, Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter, Transport for NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW, NSW Maritime, Salvation Army, RSPCA NSW, WIRES, NSW Telco Authority, Before You Dig Australia, CREST, The Hills Shire Council, NSW Reconstruction Authority, Fortem, Girl Guides and Scouts NSW will also speak with attendees about preparing for a range of emergency situations.
The Sydney 000 Expo will run from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 13 September at Castle Hill Showground, Aub Juleff Arena.
