ANZGOG Announces Professor Paul Cohen as Chair-Elect

The Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Paul Cohen as Chair-Elect of the ANZGOG Board of Directors, joining current Chair, Professor Clare Scott AM as part of a planned leadership succession.

Professor Scott AM will continue in her role as Chair until the completion of her term in 2027, ensuring strong continuity of governance and strategic direction across ANZGOG's growing research portfolio.

Professor Cohen is a Gynaecological Oncologist at the Western Australian Gynaecological Cancer Service, King Edward Memorial Hospital, and Clinical Professor at the University of Western Australia. He brings a distinguished record of clinical leadership and research to the appointment, currently serving as Chair of the ANZGOG Research Advisory Committee (RAC), Co-Chair of the Symptom Benefit Committee of the international peak clinical trials group, the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG), and a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gynaecological Cancers Faculty Group. He is also the immediate Past Chair of the International Gynecological Cancer Society (IGCS) Education Committee and a past Board Director of the IGCS.

His research interests span prediction of histological tumour regression following neoadjuvant chemotherapy in high-grade serous ovarian cancer, supportive care for women with gynaecological cancers, and gynaecological cancer epidemiology, all central to ANZGOG's mission of Advancing research, saving lives.

Professor Clare Scott AM welcomed the appointment:

"I am delighted to welcome Paul into the Chair-Elect role. This appointment reflects the Board's commitment to thoughtful, structured succession planning that protects the momentum and integrity of everything ANZGOG is working to achieve. Paul's leadership of the Research Advisory Committee and his standing in the international gynaecological oncology community make him exceptionally well placed to lead this organisation. I look forward to working closely with him over the coming period to ensure the strongest possible foundation for his future chairmanship."

Professor Cohen said he was honoured by the appointment:

"It is a privilege to be appointed Chair-Elect of ANZGOG. Under Clare's leadership, the organisation has gone from strength to strength, raising the bar in the gynaecological cancer research landscape. I very much am looking forward to working alongside Clare as she continues to lead with such vision and commitment, and to carrying that forward momentum into the next chapter for ANZGOG."

The Chair-Elect appointment reflects ANZGOG's commitment to improving the lives of those with gynecological cancer, including via best-practice governance and a smooth leadership transition ahead of Professor Scott AM's term concluding in 2027.
