Italian wine, aperitivi, snacks, and cinema will converge at Sydney’s Machine Hall for a new one-night event on Monday 26 October, bringing a slice of la dolce vita to the city.

Bevi Italiano, presented by WinePilot, is a new event designed to celebrate the rich diversity of Italian wine and its surrounding culture. Created by international wine communicator Angus Hughson and award-winning sommelier Lara Caraturo, the event aims to connect wine lovers with the stories behind Italy’s remarkable wine heritage in an accessible, engaging, and fun atmosphere.

Taking place at Machine Hall in Sydney’s CBD, Bevi Italiano will feature a walk-around tasting of over 200 premium wines. Guests can also enjoy Italian aperitivi, cocktails, antipasti, music, and classic Italian movie projections.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore Italy’s regional diversity, from the celebrated reds of Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino to the sparkling wines of Franc Franciacorta and the volcanic soils of Mount Etna. Importers will be on hand to share their knowledge and help guests discover new favourites.

The culinary experience is equally important. Guests can savour classic Italian aperitivi, such as Negronis and Canella Bellinis, complemented by authentic salumi and cheese from Ocello and artisan bread from LODE Bakery by Federico Zanellato.

For those seeking deeper insights, the program includes intimate wine masterclasses hosted by Angus Hughson, delving into Italian regions, grape varietals, and wine culture. Additionally, Sydney-based bartender and drinks educator Claudio Bedini will lead hands-on aperitivo sessions, exploring the history and traditions behind Italy’s iconic bitters and vermouths.

Two ticket options are available for the wine lovers' session. CLASSICO tickets ($55–$55pp + fees) include entry and tasting of 200 wines. For an elevated experience, RISERVA tickets ($99–$99pp + fees) offer exclusive access to over 40 premium and rare wines, a welcome cocktail, and a luxury take-home wine glass.

“Bevi Italiano is about bringing people together over great wine, food and conversation, while encouraging them to explore beyond the labels they already know,” say founders Angus Hughson and Lara Caraturo. “We want people to discover just how diverse and exciting Italian wine can be, in an atmosphere that celebrates the best of Italian drinking culture.”

Bevi Italiano welcomes wine trade and media from midday, before opening its consumer session from 5pm to 8pm. With its unique combination of wine discovery, Italian hospitality, and immersive entertainment, the event offers a fresh way to experience Italy in the heart of Sydney.
