Bondi Goes Barking Mad! Hundreds of Dogs and Their Humans at Bondi Dog Day

From four-legged lifeguards to Pup Pilates, Bondi was transformed into a dog lover's paradise for a day of community, connection and animal welfare awareness.

BONDI BEACH, SYDNEY — Bondi was filled with wagging tails, happy paws and plenty of puppy love on Sunday, 25 October, as Australian animal welfare charity Pound Paws brought its much-loved Bondi Dog Day to the iconic Bondi Pavilion, in partnership with Waverley Council and NSW Government.

The free community event attracted hundreds of dog lovers and their four-legged companions, bringing together local residents, pet businesses and animal enthusiasts for a fun-filled morning celebrating the special bond between humans and their pets, while raising awareness for pet adoption.

One of the biggest highlights was the Bondi Doggie Lifeguard Challenge, where dogs of all shapes and sizes put their paws to the test, navigating a playful obstacle course inspired by Bondi's iconic lifeguard culture, set up by Pawsitive Vibe Fitness & Fetch & Co - with dogs dodging sharks, to diving through wave barrels, whilst being judged by REAL LIFE Surf life guards from Bondi Beach. A once in a lifetime opportunity for dogs to experience what it's like to be a Bondi Lifeguatd.

From enthusiastic little pups to larger canine competitors, each dog had its moment to shine, with plenty of laughs and cheers from the crowd.

Another crowd favourite was Pup Pilates, a special collaboration between Pound Paws and premium pet brand Tavo Pets. Led by Pilates instructor Jessica Janusz, the unique mat workout invited dog owners to stretch, move and bond with their furry companions on the mat.

Following the class, dogs were treated to a Bondi Spritz Puptail Society mocktail, while their humans enjoyed a limited-edition Pound Paws blueberry matcha from local café Surfish Bondi.

Throughout the morning, visitors explored a vibrant collection of local pet businesses, enjoyed live acoustic music and participated in a range of interactive activities.

Best Dog Trick and Costume Competition was a stand out activity, with dogs competing with out-there outfits, to fantastic tricks that had the crowd clapping. They were judged by a VIP Judging Panel, including the likes of; Laura Csortan, Dylan Rivier and Fonn from Pooch Doof.

Rescue Dog Adoption Parade, was the heart of the event, showcasing dogs available for adoption on the main stage, including rescue dingoes this year! Rescue groups included Dingo Den Animal Rescue and Greyhound as Pets.

Beyond the fun, the event carried an important message: encouraging Australians to consider adoption and supporting the incredible work of animal rescue organisations.

Pound Paws founder Brittany Bloomer said the event was a beautiful reminder of the power of bringing communities together through a shared love of animals.

"There's something so special about seeing hundreds of people come together over their love of dogs! Bondi Dog Day is all about creating those happy moments between pets and their humans, while also shining a light on the importance of animal adoption.

"We wanted to host something that felt uniquely Bondi, which is how the Bondi Doggie Lifeguard Challenge came to life! Seeing all the dogs give it their best shot was absolutely priceless.

"Events like this remind us that community connection can make a real difference. Every conversation about adoption helps us get one step closer to finding more rescue pets their forever homes."

Founded in 2014, Pound Paws is an Australian registered animal welfare charity dedicated to reducing pet homelessness by connecting rescue animals with potential adopters through its online adoption platform, community events and awareness campaigns.

Following the success of Bondi Dog Day, Pound Paws hopes to continue expanding its community events, bringing more opportunities for Australians to connect with local rescue organisations and discover the joy of pet adoption.

Lack of independence in NSW Office of Animal Welfare Bill risks meaningful outcomes for animals

SYDNEY (October 30, 2026)—Humane World for Animals Australia says a Bill to establish the state’s first Office of Animal Welfare tabled in New South Wales Parliament lacks the independence needed to deliver meaningful animal protections due to a lack of autonomy and independent expertise. Under the proposed legislation, key functions of the office, including reviewing and advising on animal welfare matters, can only be exercised at the written request of the Minister for Agriculture. It also removes the statutory requirement to consult the existing Animal Welfare Advisory Council, made up of independent experts in animal welfare and veterinary science, on…
