Family First MP Hon Sarah Game Demands Answers Over Australian Bragg Centre Proton Therapy Failure

Family First < 1 min read

Family First MLC Hon Sarah Game yesterday introduced a motion in the South Australian Parliament calling for a Select Committee to investigate the failed Australian Bragg Centre proton therapy project.

The Auditor-General revealed that $115.4 million in public funding had been committed to the project, with approximately $98.5 million already spent, yet the promised cancer treatment facility remains undelivered.

“How did the SAHMRI Board proceed with such an enormous financial risk without first securing a financially viable operator?” Ms Game asked.

The inquiry would examine SAHMRI's decision-making, the selection of developer Commercial and General, procurement failures and the State Government's substantial leasing commitments.

“The astronomical financial risk taken in proceeding with this development without first securing a financially viable operator raises serious questions about the decisions made by the SAHMRI Board,” Ms Game said.

In December 2025, the South Australian Labor State Government entered into further arrangements with Dexus, expanding its leases to cover all above-ground floors of the building.

“Why is the State Government now leasing an entire commercial building when the proton therapy service it was intended to support has still not been delivered?” Ms Game asked.

“Taxpayers deserve to know why the Government continues to take on significant financial commitments for a facility that has still not delivered its intended purpose.”

“This is not just about taxpayers' money. It is about children fighting cancer and families who were promised access to potentially lifesaving treatment. We cannot gamble with public funds and children's lives without accountability.”

Super Members Council

One Nation super policy would just make cost of living pressures worse

One Nation’s bid in Parliament today to turn super into an ATM would just drive up inflation, make Australians poorer in retirement, and leave everyone with higher tax bill, the Super Members Council warns. Australians are doing it tough. Mortgage repayments, rents and everyday household costs are putting pressure on family budgets. And that’s why policymakers should reduce people's living costs – instead of telling workers to sacrifice their own retirement savings which just hikes inflation and interest rates. The Council’s modelling shows a typical full-time worker withdrawing a quarter of super contributions for 3 years would be $25,000 poorer…

ALERT: Social licence for AUKUS lacking as Public Inquiry report and recommendations due

MEDIA ALERT Wednesday 28 October 2026 Social licence for AUKUS lacking as Public Inquiry report and recommendations due The Lead Commissioner of Australia’s independent, crowdfunded Public Inquiry into AUKUS has warned the Federal Government about growing community unease about the project, ahead of the release of the Inquiry’s report and recommendations next week in Canberra. Lead Commissioner Peter Garrett said today that the Inquiry hearings showed successive Governments had comprehensively failed to make the case for the AUKUS submarine pact, and that the sheer scale and cost of the project meant it risked becoming a threat to social cohesion in…
