Guardrail Technologies Australia Selected to Contribute to Australian Senate Inquiry on AI

Guardrail Technologies to offer expert insight into controlling autonomous AI as Senate examines its growing impact across Australian government, industry and communities

SYDNEY (Oct. 2, 2026) – Guardrail Technologies Australia today announced that its submission has been accepted by the Australian Senate Environment and Communications References Committee as part of its inquiry into artificial intelligence and data centres, as the country confronts growing questions about how to maintain visibility and control as AI becomes more capable and autonomous.

The inquiry, which is examining the potential impacts of AI and data centres on Australian life and industry, has taken on new significance following the disclosure that an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to public and non-public files in a Medicare statistics reporting portal administered by Services Australia. The Australian Government has since launched an urgent review of the incident and the country’s response to AI-related cyber threats.

“AI is becoming part of the infrastructure Australia’s governments, businesses and communities depend on,” said Peter Why, Director Guardrail Australia.. “Australia has an opportunity to establish an approach that supports AI innovation while keeping people firmly in control. That requires independent oversight, clear visibility into where AI is operating and controls that remain effective as the technology becomes increasingly autonomous.”

Guardrail Technologies Australia’s contribution to the Senate inquiry will address the controls organizations need as AI becomes more deeply embedded across Australia. These include independent oversight, continuous visibility into AI activity, behavioral governance, forensic evidence and the ability to intervene when AI operates outside established policy.

Guardrail Technologies Australia was established to bring independent AI control and security capabilities to the Australian market, with an emphasis on trusted AI adoption, Australian sovereignty and the needs of government, critical infrastructure and enterprise organizations.

Guardrail’s approach is designed around three requirements: control what AI does, provide visibility without complexity and deliver security that grows with AI. Its independent architecture works across AI tools, platforms and existing technology environments, allowing organizations to establish control without replacing the systems they already use.

“The Medicare incident shows why organizations need AI under control everywhere it operates,” said T.J. Marlin, CEO of Guardrail Technologies. “An AI agent encountered a boundary and continued pursuing its assignment. As AI gains access to more data, applications and infrastructure, organizations need independent controls that can see what AI is doing, govern its behavior and intervene as it acts. Those controls have to evolve as quickly as AI does.”

More homes alone won’t solve the housing crisis, Anglicare report finds

The Australian Government is enabling more social and affordable housing than it has in a generation, but new Anglicare Sydney research warns that supply alone will not solve the housing crisis. Anglicare Sydney's latest housing report, More Than a Key in the Door, draws on 421 resident surveys, 22 interviews and seven years of assessment data across 803 social and affordable homes in NSW. The report shows the strongest results occur when affordable housing is combined with secure tenure, practical support and a sense of community. When these principles are applied resident outcomes are impressive: Loneliness fell from 38% to…

Doctors call for answers after OpenAI Medicare breach

Victoria’s doctors are calling for greater accountability from OpenAI and clear answers from both the Victorian and Federal governments about how they will protect sensitive patient health information after it was recently disclosed that Medicare was breached in June of this year. The breach involved an OpenAI agent gaining unauthorised access to a Services Australia Medicare statistics portal. While the Federal Government said no personal patient information was accessed, OpenAI inexplicably did not notify Australian authorities until September. AMA Victoria President Dr Simon Judkins said the incident raised serious questions for both doctors and patients. “Confidentiality remains absolutely critical to…

Transparency continues as large corporate compliance climbs

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has today published its annual corporate tax transparency (CTT) report which reveals that the 4,299 entities paid a combined $87.5 billion in 2024–25. ATO Acting Deputy Commissioner Michelle Sams said the tax revenues from this demographic are inherently linked to broader economic trends. The results continue to reflect strong levels of voluntary compliance. The small year on year reduction in tax paid is predominantly due to reduced profitability of miners flowing from lower commodity prices. The effectiveness of ongoing investment in the Tax Avoidance Taskforce over many years has also ensured large businesses pay the…
