Pro-Palestine and anti-war activists have blockaded Treasurer Jim Chalmers' electorate office in Logan, demanding the Australian Government act to end Future Fund investment in controversial US technology company Palantir.

The action at Chalmers' Woodridge office forms part of the international People vs Palantir Global Week of Action, with campaigners around the world targeting government, corporate and institutional ties to Palantir.

Australia's Future Fund held approximately $165 million in Palantir shares at the end of December 2025, after dramatically increasing its investment in the company in recent years.

Protesters demand that the Australian Government ensure public money is not invested in Palantir and other companies linked to Israel's military operations and occupation.

OFFICE OCCUPIED

25 Protesters occupied Chalmers' electorate office for approximately 35 minutes as part of the action.

Police attended the office but no arrests were made and protesters were subsequently removed from the office.

MOVE-ON DIRECTIONS ISSUED

Police issued move-on directions to all 25 protesters during the blockade.

Protesters complied and no arrests were made.

Approximately 25 people participated in the action, which began at 2.30pm and continued for approximately 45 minutes.

Protesters held banners.

Northern Rivers Friends of Palestine spokesperson Subhi Awad said:

"Instead of investing in Australia's future, our Future Fund is investing in foreign companies that profit from death and destruction."

"We're investing in deeply troubling foreign companies like Palantir and Elbit Systems while Australians are struggling to afford housing, healthcare and basic necessities."

The Future Fund also holds investments in weapons manufacturers supplying Israel, including Israeli weapons company Elbit Systems and US weapons manufacturers Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

The UN Commission of Inquiry, Amnesty International and the International Association of Genocide Scholars have all concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

Awad continued:

"The protests come only weeks after sustained public pressure led supermarket giant Coles to announce an end to its partnership with Palantir."

"If Coles can dump Palantir, so can the Future Fund."

Margaret Pestorius from Wage Peace said:

"Our public money should be building homes and hospitals, not lent to companies involved in blowing them up."

"Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, is a key player in deciding what the government invests in. This links him closely to genocide."

BDS Youth spokesperson Malaak Seleem said:

"Palantir is not an ethical company, and Australians have already shown that there is a price for doing business with it. Coles listened and decided to walk away. Now our own government needs to do the same."

"If Coles can dump Palantir, so can the Future Fund."

Justice For Palestine Magan-djin spokesperson Omar Ashour said:

"JFP joins APAN in calling on the treasurer to direct the Future Fund to cease investments that are linked with entities complicit in Israel's genocide."

"Investing millions of dollars into Palantir is a choice – one that breaches our international obligations to prevent genocide and ensure we are not complicit in war crimes."

"There should be no place for investing into or making business with companies that profit from the mass killing and starvation of innocent people."

The protests form part of People vs Palantir, an international campaign opposing Palantir's involvement in intrusive surveillance, Israel's assault on Gaza and US immigration enforcement through ICE.

This action is in support of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network's campaign calling for the Future Fund to divest from companies linked to Israel's military operations and occupation, including Palantir.

During the Global Week of Action, campaigners around the world are calling on governments, corporations and public institutions to end contracts and investments involving Palantir.

New rules give more digital asset users access to AFCA

More consumers who use digital assets such as cryptocurrency, wrapped tokens, stablecoins, tokenised securities and digital asset wallets can now access the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA)’s free and independent service. This follows ASIC’s clarification about when a digital asset is considered a financial product. If a business provides services involving financial products, it generally needs to hold an AFSL and be a member of AFCA. The new requirements are set out in ASIC’s Information Sheet 225 (INFO 225). Until recently, there was some uncertainty about which digital assets were regulated as a financial product under the Corporations Act, which…
