More than 700 Rural Fire Service volunteers (RFS) and their family members enjoyed a walk on the wild side on the NSW south coast on Sunday (25 October 2026).

To celebrate the hard work and sacrifice of its members and their families, the Rural Fire Service Association (RFSA) held a Family Day at Mogo Wildlife Park, just south of Batesman Bay.

The event at the 70-acre conservation and wildlife protection area included a catered lunch and ice creams, as well as the RFS mental health team being on site to talk to volunteers about mental health and wellbeing.

RFSA President Scott Campbell said the organisation was delighted to see so many members and their families on the day.

“It was great to return to Mogo Wildlife Park and catchup with volunteers and their families

ahead of the upcoming warmer months, to give back to those who give so much to our communities.

“Not surprisingly, our members have a great appreciation for animals and nature, and they came away with a deeper understanding of the wonderful work being done at Mogo to support threatened and endangered animals.”

Mogo Wildlife Park includes gorillas, rhinoceros, silvery gibbons, Bolivian squirrel monkeys, giraffes, zebras, meerkats, cheetahs, cotton-top tamarins, Sumatran tigers, Nepalese red pandas, ring-tailed lemurs and white lions.

The RFSA exists to support members who give their time and energy to help our communities in what can be the most challenging days of their lives.
