The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has honoured four outstanding South Australian general practice leaders at the 2026 RACGP Awards, recognising excellence in patient care, medical education, community service and rural healthcare.

This year's recipients are:

  • General Practitioner of the Year – Dr Jyothi Menon

  • General Practice of the Year – Goolwa Medical Centre

  • General Practice Supervisor of the Year – Dr Catherine Murray

  • General Practitioner in Training of the Year – Dr Ricky Stocker-Johns

RACGP South Australia Chair Dr Siân Goodson said the recipients exemplify the very best of general practice.

"These award winners represent the dedication, compassion and commitment that define general practice in South Australia," she said.

"They have made extraordinary contributions to their patients, communities, colleagues and the next generation of GPs. Their work demonstrates the profound difference general practice makes to people's lives every day."

General Practitioner of the Year – Dr Jyothi Menon

A GP at St Agnes Surgery for 18 years, Dr Menon has been recognised for her leadership in clinical governance, preventive health and registrar education.

A passionate mentor and quality improvement champion, she has led initiatives to improve vaccination uptake and frailty assessments, while providing care in multiple languages to improve access for diverse communities.

The awards panel described Dr Menon as "a highly dedicated and compassionate GP who consistently delivers exceptional care to her patients, colleagues and the wider community."

General Practice of the Year – Goolwa Medical Centre

Goolwa Medical Centre has been recognised for delivering comprehensive, community-focused healthcare to the Fleurieu Peninsula.

The practice serves more than 9,500 active patients, offers a wide range of services including aged care, skin cancer medicine and chronic disease management, and is a highly regarded training practice for future GPs.

The awards panel praised the practice's innovation, strong teaching culture and commitment to improving healthcare access in a rural community.

General Practice Supervisor of the Year – Dr Catherine Murray

Dr Murray was honoured for her outstanding commitment to training and mentoring GP registrars.

Known for her generosity, clinical excellence and personalised approach to teaching, she is widely respected by registrars as a role model who consistently goes above and beyond to support learning and professional development.

The awards panel described Dr Murray as an "exceptional GP supervisor" who demonstrates a genuine passion for developing future generations of GPs.

General Practitioner in Training of the Year – Dr Ricky Stocker-Johns

Rural registrar Dr Stocker-Johns received the award for his dedication to patient care, commitment to rural medicine and contribution to medical education.

Respected throughout his community, he has built a reputation as a compassionate and reliable clinician while supporting medical students and future healthcare professionals.

The awards panel commended his resilience, professionalism and commitment to serving rural South Australians.

Dr Goodson said the award recipients highlight the breadth and impact of general practice across South Australia.

"Whether it's supporting patients in rural communities, mentoring future GPs, leading innovation in practice care, or providing comprehensive care across generations, these recipients reflect the enormous value general practice brings to our healthcare system," she said.

"The RACGP is proud to recognise their contribution and celebrate the difference they make to the health and wellbeing of South Australians."
