Strategic Elements launches portable AI system and reaches key milestone

Strategic Elements 3 mins read
Key Facts:

•    Strategic Elements has launched a pilot programme for its new EdgeiQ Portable system, a handheld device designed for GPS-free spatial data capture in underground mining environments, incorporating LiDAR scanning, 3D mapping, and onboard analysis.
•    The EdgeiQ Portable has been refined through multiple underground field trials with a Tier 1 mining company, with active discussions underway with prospective mining sector partners for revenue-generating deployments.
•    The company's fixed-site product, EdgeiQ OnSite, has secured its first commercial mining contract with a major global gold producer for underground mine haulage measurement and analysis, with a potential global market opportunity estimated at over A$500 million.
•    Stealth Technologies has achieved a key Physical AI milestone, successfully deploying an initial AI model directly onto the EdgeiQ Portable hardware in collaboration with Curtin University, capable of generating outputs in approximately 100 milliseconds per inference without requiring cloud computing.
•    The AI module, developed to predict overbreak and dilution in mining operations, is progressing towards an underground field trial targeted for Q1 2027, with operational mining data from a Tier 1 company expected to support further model development during Q4 2026.
•    Strategic Elements Ltd is a registered Pooled Development Fund providing patient capital to Australian innovation through wholly owned operating ventures.

Strategic Elements Ltd (ASX: SOR) is pleased to announce the launch of a pilot program for its new EdgeiQ Portable system, with active discussions underway with prospective mining sector partners for revenue-generating deployments. Stealth Technologies, a wholly owned investment of Strategic Elements, has also achieved a key Physical AI technical milestone, establishing a foundation for adding predictive intelligence to the same hardware.

EdgeiQ Portable is Stealth's new handheld product designed for capturing and analysing spatial information underground where GPS is unavailable and connectivity is limited. Refined through multiple underground field trials with a Tier 1 mining company, the system integrates LiDAR scanning, 3D mapping, and onboard analysis, delivering results at the point of work without needing GPS or internet connectivity. This technology has been developed using insights from five completed underground field trials. Stealth's location in Western Australia provides a strategic advantage, enabling close collaboration with mining operators for product development and early commercial deployments.

Separately, the company's existing fixed-site product, EdgeiQ OnSite, has secured its first commercial mining contract with a major global gold producer for advanced underground mine haulage measurement and analysis, with Stealth estimating a potential global market opportunity exceeding A$500 million for this application.

An artificial intelligence (AI) module is also under development to add predictive intelligence to the EdgeiQ Portable hardware. Stealth has achieved its first technical milestone, successfully demonstrating an initial AI model running directly on the hardware without requiring external or cloud computing. Access to operational mining data has commenced from a Tier 1 mining company to support further AI model development during Q4 2026, with a potential underground field trial targeted for Q1 2027.

Key Physical AI technical achievements include:
- Mining-specific AI development: An initial model trained on simulated mining rounds aims to predict overbreak and dilution.
- AI integrated into existing hardware: An initial AI model has been successfully deployed onto the EdgeiQ Portable hardware in collaboration with Curtin University's Western Australian School of Mines.
- Rapid onboard AI processing: Initial model test outputs were generated in approximately 100 milliseconds per inference.
- Repeatable AI deployment: A process for transferring AI models onto hardware has been established, supporting future development.

Strategic Elements Managing Director Charles Murphy said: ““After years of building and validating the underlying sensing, processing and computing technology, we believe Stealth has reached an important inflection point. Physical AI represents a major opportunity for Strategic Elements. As a Pooled Development Fund, we are positioned to identify, back and help build technologies enabling AI to move beyond screens and data centres into machines and real-world industrial operations”.

Tax deadline days away: Chartered Accountants ANZ urges Australians not to rush their return

29 October 2026 With only days remaining until the November 2 tax return deadline, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) is encouraging Australians to take a final check of their income, deductions and records before lodging their return. Taxpayers have until Monday 2 November to lodge their own tax return this year, after the usual 31 October deadline was extended because it falls on a Saturday. Susan Franks, Tax Leader at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, said many Australians risk making avoidable mistakes by rushing to meet the deadline. “Tax time isn't just about meeting a deadline. It's…

Super Members Council

One Nation super policy would just make cost of living pressures worse

One Nation’s bid in Parliament today to turn super into an ATM would just drive up inflation, make Australians poorer in retirement, and leave everyone with higher tax bill, the Super Members Council warns. Australians are doing it tough. Mortgage repayments, rents and everyday household costs are putting pressure on family budgets. And that’s why policymakers should reduce people's living costs – instead of telling workers to sacrifice their own retirement savings which just hikes inflation and interest rates. The Council’s modelling shows a typical full-time worker withdrawing a quarter of super contributions for 3 years would be $25,000 poorer…
