ABOUT

They might be young, the bulls are bucking and the stakes have never been higher: Australia's best young bull riders will descend on Tamworth this weekend for the 2026 PBR Australia Can-Am Junior Academy Grand Finals, where $29,000 in prizemoney and year-end bonuses will be on the line in what organisers describe as the richest junior bull riding finals in the country. From Queensland to Western Australia, New South Wales and beyond, these young cowboys and cowgirls have spent the season travelling thousands of kilometres, climbing into the chutes and battling for every precious point to earn their place on Australian bull riding's biggest junior stage. With $20,000 in event prizemoney and a further $9,000 in year-end bonuses, the Tamworth Finals represents a major investment in the future of Australian bull riding and the young athletes working their way towards the sport's elite ranks.

And the young guns won't be the only ones chasing glory in Tamworth this weekend! The PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour also rolls into town, bringing Australia's elite bull riders to the arena for another high-stakes showdown before the 2026 Grand Finals in Townsville on November 13 and 14. Reigning Australian Champion Kurt Shephard, from Mareeba, leads the national standings after a spectacular victory in Mackay last weekend, where he delivered a season-high 89.90-point ride aboard Last Post. With Athol's Zane Hall chasing him for the Gold Buckle and precious championship points still up for grabs, Tamworth promises eight seconds of adrenaline, serious bucking power and some of the best bull riding in the country.

The Tamworth Iron Cowboy Invitational takes over AELEC Arena this Saturday, October 24, from 7pm, with American rodeo entertainer Kyle Lamon adding his trademark comedy and arena antics to the action. The Junior Grand Finals begin at 12 noon, with free entry, giving fans a full day of bull riding, from Australia's future champions to its biggest stars.
