The City of Sydney invites local artists, curators and other creatives to pitch ideas for one of Sydney’s best temporary art programs.
Art & About Sydney elevates temporary art installations and performances in public and unusual spaces that bring thousands of visitors into the city each year.
In 2026, the program will take on a new format, transforming spaces around Oxford Street and Taylor Square from 23 to 25 October with installations, performances and participatory projects.
Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO said the City of Sydney is particularly interested in performances, interactive works and installations but proposals across all artforms are welcome.
“This is about encouraging creative collaboration between the City of Sydney and local artists to temporarily reimagine and reshape spaces,” the Lord Mayor said.
“Our creative community, and shared celebrations of this creativity, are fundamental to the identity of our city.
“We’re particularly interested in works that respond to the culture, history and unique characteristics of Oxford Street, Taylor Square and Darlinghurst.”
The program calls for outdoor and indoor artworks.
Potential sites for outdoor works include Taylor Square and Oxford Square. Works need to be visually interesting, high impact and respond to the area’s character. Designs can be installations, static, have moving parts or incorporate light, sound, video and digital technology.
Indoor works will be displayed at East Sydney Community and Arts Centre and Darlinghurst Community Space. Suggested artforms include theatre, dance, performances, comedy, workshops and exhibitions.
Submissions must demonstrate artistic excellence, an innovative approach, be highly accessible and appeal to a broad audience.
Up to 10 artists will be selected for both outdoor and indoor categories. The City of Sydney will provide financial support for each of the selected projects.
