POST HOLIDAY GUILT HITS AUSSIES HARD

MyFitnessPal 2 mins read

Sydney, Australia, 16 October 2025 –  Australians returning from holidays are feeling the guilt of indulging while travelling, claims new data from a global nutrition and food tracking app, MyFitnessPal.

1 in 2 (50%) Australians surveyed claim to abandon their typical diet on a holiday, however, a larger figure (56%) surveyed experience some level of guilt or frustration over their diet or health when they return from travelling.

From Aperol spritzes in Italy, to tapas in Spain, to ramen in Tokyo, Aussies are rightfully making the most of international summers across the globe. However, while the memories pile up, so too can the pressure to make up for overseas treats or indulgence, following the return from holidays.

For some Australians, following a health and fitness routine before a holiday is a way to feel more comfortable and confident about indulging in food overseas. In fact, 1 in 2 (50%) will have a desire to lose weight quickly before a trip, and nearly 1 in 5 (19%) will actually take on a stricter diet or eating cleanse ahead of time. It comes as 38% of Aussies expect to indulge in holiday meals during every international trip.

The findings have sparked calls from experts to adopt a progress over perfection mindset when it comes to nutrition and health for the millions of Aussies vacationing across the globe this year.

Nutritionist and MyFitnessPal ambassador, Michaela Sparrow, says, “Holidays are about making memories, not punishing yourself before, or afterwards. Food is part of the travel experience; you can absolutely enjoy it without derailing your health goals. Best believe if I’m in Italy, I’ll be enjoying a plate of pasta, and you can too, without the guilt.”

"After the indulgence of a holiday, eating well isn’t punishment—it’s a gentle return to balance. Tracking your nutrition, through apps and tools like MyFitnessPal, can be a really powerful way that guides you back to feeling your best, one mindful choice at a time.

“By planning ahead, listening to your body, and making small, balanced choices along the way, you can return home feeling energised rather than guilty,” added Michaela.

Mental health group calls for more urban greening to combat heat waves and improve wellbeing

Mental health group calls for more urban greening to combat heat waves and improve wellbeing Australians for Mental Health is calling on state and local governments to sharpen their focus on urban greening infrastructure, as more hot weather hits areas with less green space especially hard. Hot weather is forecast for parts of the country over the coming days, and places like Western Sydney which has fewer green spaces and tree canopy than other areas, are known to get hotter partly due to the urban heat island effect. It comes as new data from Australians for Mental Health suggests there…

THE TRUE FACTS ABOUT GREYHOUND RACING’S OPTIMISATION

There has been a lot of misinformation spread recently about Greyhound Racing NSW’s (GRNSW) decision to close three (3) tracks in NSW. GRNSW would like to ensure that everyone has the true facts about its recent optimisation decision. “Following the announcement of track optimisation, the key issue for its necessary implementation remains overlooked. GRNSW do not have the capital reserves or the required revenue to upgrade and maintain 18 TAB tracks in NSW,” GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Steve Griffin said. At the Industry Summit at Wentworth Park in May 2025 that was attended by stakeholders, Race Clubs and Participants, it…
