Grace Tame, Patrick Aboud, Celia Pacquola, Nasser Mashni, Senator David Shoebridge join Oxfam Australia’s ‘Not in my Name’ campaign in support of Palestinians in Gaza

Oxfam Australia < 1 min read

Grace Tame, Patrick Abboud, Nasser Mashni, Senator David Shoebridge and comedian Celia Pacquola have this week joined hundreds in Oxfam Australia’s campaign, ‘Not in My Name’, showing support for Palestinians in Gaza and calling on the Australian government to take decisive action now to stop violence and breaches of international law.

Gaza’s humanitarian situation is catastrophic, marked by starvation, repeated forced displacements, and the destruction of life-sustaining infrastructure and systems. Israel has intentionally created a chronic shortage of food, water, medicines and basic services like healthcare across Gaza.

Other notable names to join the campaign include Dr Mohammed Mustafa, Tom Ballard, Sammy J, and Anthony Hayes.

Patrick Abboud, Palestinian, Lebanese, Australian Journalist & Documentary Filmmaker, joined the campaign to lend his voice in support of Palestinian people in Gaza.

“Witnessing Israel's genocide of my people, the targeted killing of women, children, journalists, the total destruction of our lands, family homes, the erasure of our culture – it is impossible to articulate in words how unbearable it is day after day to know our so called leaders, our government is complicit.”

To date, over 32,000 people have signed Oxfam Australia’s open letter calling on the Australian Government to:

  • Apply full diplomatic pressure to restore principled, safe, unimpeded, and sustained humanitarian access across Gaza through a return to a UN-led coordination mechanism grounded in humanitarian principles and international law
  • Publicly and explicitly denounce Israel’s ongoing breaches of international humanitarian law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory
  • Stop all direct and indirect sales of Australian made and/or designed weapons to Israel
