Australia & Egypt Join Forces | Wirayudha Pencak Silat, an Indonesian Martial Art Officially Adopted in Egypt

On 6^th July 2023, Ahmed Hany Hamdy representing Pencak Silat in Egypt, signed a memorandum of understanding with Wirayudha Pencak Silat, a traditional Indonesian style of Martial Arts with representation in Australia. Ahmed is now the exclusive and official representative of Wirayudha Pencak Silat in Egypt, is responsible for the training and deployment of Wirayudha Pencak Silat in Egypt and has the authority to grade students for belts under the Wirayudha system.

“I am excited to be part of Wirayudha Pencak Silat” said Ahmed Hany Hamdy. “As the sole representative body of Wirayudha Pencak Silat in Egypt, I plan to further liaise with authorities such as the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian Olympic Committee, to further establish the sport of Pencak Silat in Egypt and to improve competitiveness through sports activities and grading students under the Wirayudha belt system.”

The Growth of Pencak Silat in Egypt

Ahmed Hany Hamdy is a Pencak Silat trainer and athlete based in Egypt. He has been training Pencak Silat since 2010 and won the first place in the Republican championship of Pencak Silat in Egypt in 2014. Ahmed is one of the founders of Pencak Silat for sports and competition in Egypt and largely contributed to the growth of the sport. Ahmed has a Degree in Sports Education from Helwan University, is currently a sports coach and has an academy for Pencak Silat in Egypt called Angry Wolf.

About Wirayudha Pencak Silat

Wirayudha Pencak Silat is a traditional Martial Art from the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia and is the family style of Guru Eka Aris Suhartanto (Aris), with techniques passed down from generation to generation. Wirayudha Pencak Silat has retained its tradition throughout the years, has been proven on the battlefield and remains one of the most effective, authentic and complete martial art systems in the world.

Lee Edmondson is the Apprentice of Guru Aris and is based in Australia. Lee has been training Martial Arts for around 20 years, starting with Muay Thai and MMA. He has since trained Pencak Silat under the direction of Guru Aris for the past 10 years, has won several medals within Australia at the National Pencak Silat Championship and represented Australia at the World Championship in Bali, Indonesia in 2016. He has many face-to-face students on the Gold Coast QLD, throughout Australia and overseas; with training and grading for belts facilitated online.
