Key Facts:

Stable Connect, Australia’s leading horse racing syndication facilitator, has partnered with Kaplan Professional, Australia’s leading financial services educator, to launch a new education course aimed at lifting regulatory understanding, ethical practice and professionalism across the horse racing industry.

The course, Investing in Horse Racing Syndicates, focuses on the requirements of Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) Regulatory Guide 91 (RG 91), which applies to managed investments – including horse racing syndicates where ownership is shared and financial contributions are pooled.

Individuals involved in promoting or selling syndicate interests must have the appropriate ASIC license and meet specific education and competency requirements, and the new course addresses these obligations in a practical, accessible way.

The course provides clear, structured education on how horse racing syndicates operate, how they are regulated, and the responsibilities of authorised representatives, without assuming a technical finance background.

Investing in Horse Racing Syndicates covers key topics including how managed investments work, the regulatory framework for horse racing syndicates, the role of authorised representatives and ethical decision-making.

The course is delivered digitally through interactive learning modules and assessments, is designed to be completed over 12 weeks, and provides a certificate on completion.

As a result, individuals involved in promoting or selling syndicate interests must not only have the appropriate ASIC license but also meet specific education and competency requirements, and the new course addresses these obligations in a practical, accessible way.

It provides clear, structured education on how horse racing syndicates operate, how they are regulated, and the responsibilities of authorised representatives, without assuming a technical finance background.

Stable Connect Director Adam Tims said the partnership was driven by a desire to lead from the front and establish a benchmark for the industry, regardless of how regulation may evolve in the future.

“This is not about reacting to possible regulatory change – it is about demonstrating leadership and encouraging best practice across the industry.

Horse racing syndicates sit at the intersection of sport and financial participation, and participants deserve clarity, education and ethical conduct that sets a standard for the wider industry,” he said.

Tims said Stable Connect was eager to take a proactive approach to education, recognising it as a key driver of participant confidence, ethical conduct, compliance and long-term trust across the horse racing industry.

“If people are involved in promoting or selling interests in horses, it is important they clearly understand the rules, the risks and their responsibilities.

“This course is about giving owners the confidence that comes from understanding how syndicates work, what the risks are and what is expected of them.

“Partnering with Kaplan Professional means participants are learning from Australia’s leading financial services educator, with education that is practical, clear and directly relevant to the industry,” he said.

Kaplan Professional CEO Brian Knight said the partnership reflects the education provider’s long-standing role in setting education standards across Australia’s financial services sector and beyond.

“Kaplan Professional has been educating Australia’s financial services industry for decades, and that experience is critical when supporting emerging or specialised areas such as horse racing syndicates.

“High-quality education helps people make informed decisions, understand their obligations and participate with confidence – whether in traditional financial services or at the intersection of sport and investment.

“By partnering with Stable Connect, we are supporting an initiative that lifts capability across the industry and demonstrates how education can play a meaningful role in strengthening professionalism and trust,” he said.

WORKING GROUP ESTABLISHED TO PURSUE METROPOLITAN GREYHOUND RACING VENUE

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has announced the formation of the Sydney Metropolitan Racing Precinct (SMRP) working group which will evaluate options and alternatives for the industry once racing ceases at Wentworth Park. Late last year the NSW Government announced they would not be renewing the lease at Wentworth Park when it expires in September 2027, a decision leaving greyhound racing in NSW in the unenviable position of being without a Metropolitan venue. “As an industry we need a premier Metropolitan venue,” GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Steve Griffin said. “There are a number of options that need to be closely scrutinised,…
