Chatswood’s Lunar New Year celebrations will reach new heights in 2026, with a packed program of headline events, night-time experiences and family favourites set to draw the community together across the Year of the Horse Festival.
Running from 12 to 28 February 2026, the festival leads into an expanded two-day Celebration Weekend on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February, giving residents and visitors more opportunities to experience the colour, energy and creativity of one of Sydney’s largest Lunar New Year events.
A festival highlight for 2026 will be a special screening of Jet Li’s Fearless to celebrate its 20th anniversary, on Friday 13 February. Audiences are invited to revisit this modern martial arts classic at The Concourse Concert Hall, followed by an exclusive Q&A with acclaimed director Ronny Yu, who will share insights into the film’s creation and legacy.
This unique cinematic event offers a rare opportunity for film lovers and festival-goers to experience one of Jet Li’s most iconic roles in a vibrant festival setting.
Mayor Tanya Taylor said the festival continues to evolve while staying true to its community roots.
“Lunar New Year in Chatswood is about shared experiences, whether that’s watching a night-time spectacle with family, enjoying live music with friends, or supporting local businesses,” Mayor Taylor said. “This year’s program offers new highlights while building on the traditions our community loves.”
Across the celebration weekend, Victoria Avenue will host more than 130 food and market stalls, alongside cultural performances and live music. At The Concourse outdoor stage, visitors can enjoy a full schedule of traditional and contemporary entertainment across both days.
The much-loved Twilight Lantern Parade will return on Saturday 21 February, stepping off at 7pm, with dancers, performers and community groups lighting up the streets in a vibrant evening procession.
Other festival highlights include:
- Horse-themed art installations at The Concourse
- Lion dancers and roaming performers across Chatswood Mall and Archer Street
- Family activities including children’s entertainment and pony rides
- Film, comedy and live performance events across the festival program
With day-time celebrations, evening entertainment and new night-time experiences, the Year of the Horse Festival invites the community to enjoy Chatswood in fresh and memorable ways.
