  • Over 100 student, staff and alumni patches honour queer history and lived experience
  • Quilt incorporates archival images from the Kirby Institute as it marks 40 years

Students, staff and community members will celebrate the completion of the UNSW Queer Community Quilt - a 3x5 metre collaborative artwork inspired by the AIDS Memorial Quilt - with a drone photoshoot ahead of its appearance in this year’s Sydney Mardi Gras parade.

More than 100 patches were created honouring queer history and celebrating lived experience. The quilt was stitched together by acclaimed Australian artist and UNSW alum Jordan Gogos. It incorporates archival photographs from the Kirby Institute, which is marking its 40th anniversary this year. The Kirby Institute has played a globally significant role in HIV research - contributing to almost every major HIV treatment trial and leading the study that resulted in PrEP being listed on the PBS in Australia.

Students, staff and spokespeople from the Kirby Institute available for interview.

Media welcome to attend.
