MORNINGTON PENINSULA, VIC – It’s time to trade the gym floor for the ocean breeze. Australia’s iconic team hiking and fundraising challenge, Coastrek, is returning to the nature trails of the stunning Mornington Peninsula on Friday, May 22. With registrations officially closing by April 12, the clock is ticking for teams to lace up and lock in their spot.

Forget "no pain, no gain" Coastrek is built on the "Five Fs": Fun, Fitness, Friends, Fresh Air and Fundraising. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a weekend wanderer, there is a distance designed to challenge and inspire:

  • The Fabulous 50km: An epic dawn-to-dusk journey from Cape Schanck Lighthouse to Point Nepean.
  • The Thrilling 30km: A spectacular loop starting and finishing at the historic Point Nepean.
  • The Terrific 20km: A scenic coastal sprint from Sorrento Front Beach to Point Nepean.

This year, thousands of trekkers will hit the sand to raise vital funds for Beyond Blue. The goal? To prove that movement in nature isn't just a physical workout – regular movement plays an important role in supporting our mental health and wellbeing.

"We're seeing more women realise that getting outdoors and moving in nature isn’t just good for you, it’s transformative," says Di Westaway OAM, Founder of Coastrek. "Time in nature, walking with others, is one of the most powerful ways to reset mentally and physically. It really is the best medicine."

Why Join the 2026 Movement?  Beyond the stunning views of rugged cliffs and secluded bays, participants receive the 12-week Coastrek Training Program and access to a supportive community hosted by the Wild Women Coastrek team. It’s not a race; it’s a shared experience where the only thing that matters is crossing the finish line together.

Depression may harm young people’s physical health long before any obvious signs appear

A groundbreaking new study tracking almost 2,000 young Australians for a decade has challenged a long-held assumption about depression and physical health, finding disrupted sleep was a stronger predictor of later insulin resistance rather than weight gain. The research from the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre found that weight gain is not the main reason depression is linked to later insulin resistance, which is an early marker of diabetes and heart disease. Instead, the research points to irregular sleep-wake cycles and ongoing sleep disruption as a key and often overlooked pathway connecting mental health issues in youth to…
