RAPID RELIEF TEAM SUPPORTS GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL

Food and drinks will be taken care of at the Good Friday Appeal as the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) supports the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne’s (RCHM) annual fundraising event.

Thirty volunteers are expected to serve up around 1,200 meals, including bacon and egg rolls, sausage sandwiches and Signature Burgers.

RRT Melbourne Local Team Leader Billy Salisbury said the team was proud to have supported the event for the past eight years.

“This is a special event that’s close to our hearts, and we’re glad we can be here again to provide some good food to all those who are part of the Royal Children's Hospital community,” Billy said.

“The Hospital has had such a significant impact on the lives of children in our community, we feel quite humbled to be here in support.

“It is a wonderful day, and if we can take care of the food and refreshments, then the Hospital can concentrate on raising as much as they can to provide state-of-the-art care for children in need.”

RRT will be serving hot food from 6am as the Appeal gets underway. Ice cream vans will also be onsite with Border Force Puppies making an appearance for the kids.

The Rapid Relief Team is the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.

Established in 2013, the RRT has more than 14,500 volunteers around the world who support community events and assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support.

Boxing Day Tsunami 20 years on: Plan International Australia remembers global solidarity

Twenty years on from the devastating Boxing Day tsunami, Plan International Australia remembers the global solidarity that emerged from tragedy. December 26 marks 20 years since the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, which claimed the lives of 230,000 people and left 1.7 million homeless on Boxing Day 2004. The earthquake struck 150km off the coast of Aceh, Indonesia. It was the most powerful the world had seen in a generation. Plan International raised US$47.3 million to assist affected people and communities focusing on childcare, education, healthcare, housing, water, sanitation, psychosocial support, livelihoods, and child protection. During this time, Plan and…

The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has urged Australians to look after themselves and their loved ones this holiday season. College President, Dr Michael Wright, said that reaching out and helping others can make all the difference. “The holiday season can be a challenging time for many Australians,” he said. “Many of us can have family and relationship pressures, financial pressures may become more obvious, and isolation and loneliness can be at their worst this time of year too. So, during this festive season please try to look after yourself and the people in your life. It can be…
