Call for consultation on higher Ed reforms
The Australian Higher Education Association (AHEIA) has asked Victoria’s Minister responsible for universities for consultation before implementation of recommendations arising from a recent state parliamentary inquiry. The Legislative Assembly Economy and Infrastructure Committee released a report into university governance in late July. It contained 37 findings and 17 recommendations. AHEIA wants consultation before implementation of any or all of the recommendations are accepted. The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU), which represents fewer than 10 per cent of higher education employees, wants all recommendations adopted. NEW LICENCE VARIATION FOR CADIA GOLD MINE TO STRENGTHEN EMISSIONS LIMITS
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has varied the Environment Protection Licence (EPL) for the Cadia Gold Mine in central western NSW, including introducing the strongest air quality limits for emissions for any mine in the state. The new limit for Total Solid Particles of 44 mg/m3 for emissions from each of its four vent risers also means the Cadia Mine will meet requirements under the Clean Air Regulation 2022 to achieve emission reduction requirements well before the November 2030 deadline.
