CIMIC’s CPB Contractors delivering Western Sydney Airport Stage 1 Cargo Works

CIMIC Group 2 mins read

CIMIC Group company CPB Contractors is on track to deliver the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport’s Stage 1 Cargo Works package, in joint venture.

CPB Contractors has been delivering this landmark Western Sydney Airport project since the very beginning, with this the fourth project undertaken, following the airside civil and pavement works and two earlier major earthworks packages.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “The world-class Western Sydney International Airport will set a new standard of operational efficiency and reliability for Australians, visitors and businesses. More than 17.6 million construction hours have already been worked to date across the project and this package of works will support up to 2,000 more construction jobs, driving significant socioeconomic uplift across Western Sydney.

“We are proud to be applying CPB Contractors’ extensive aviation expertise and track record delivering this key piece of infrastructure for Western Sydney that will bring long-term benefits to New South Wales and Australia.”

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said: “Western Sydney International Airport is a project of incredible scale and complexity, and the award of the Stage 1 Cargo Works Package demonstrates the collaborative partnership between CPB Contractors and Western Sydney Airport.

“CPB Contractors is proud to have contributed to the strong safety culture established right from the very beginning through collaborative client contractor partnerships. We are equally proud of the workforce development provided to employees, suppliers and contractors, through our Western Sydney Training Academy. The learnings across safety performance and the skills gained through our industry-leading training programs are building critical capability in construction, setting a higher standard for future aviation projects across Australia.”

The Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport’s Stage 1 Cargo Works package scope of work includes the initial warehousing, aircraft aprons, taxiways to connect to the main runways and ancillary infrastructure. The facility is designed to be scalable and will be further expanded (under other contracts) as demand increases in the future.

Construction is underway and on track for completion in 2026.
