On Thursday 12th October 2023, Highland hosted an exciting evening at 1908 Cronulla to announce their partnership with Terra Ferma launching two new luxury beachfront projects, Casa Capri and Zephyr.
General Manager of Terra Ferma, Heba Shaker, entertained the audience with a beautiful story of how the Terra Ferma brand was created. The below extract was taken from her speech and gives further insights in to the brand and their incredible projects:

CASA CAPRI
Casa Capri, with its Mediterranean-inspired design, stands tall on a hill in Giralang Rd in North Cronulla, reminiscent of the buildings in Capri overlooking the Italian coast when viewed from the water. The curvature of the structure of the building and the corrugated facade elements was an inspiration for its interior material selections which portray the charm of an Italian villa. Every detail has been well thought out, all put in a particular order to bring out the Mediterranean beauty of this scheme, from the natural colour tones and how they harmonise to mimic the weathered beauty of aged architecture, to the juxtaposition of shapes from the small rectangular stone floor tiles lined up to be laid on a curved floor to form a pathway. A pathway that leads its voyager to a space that slowly reveals a magnificent view of the ocean. The creation of archways that don’t just behave in the typical sense of weight distribution or to open a up to a space, rather to frame that moment and to encapsulate the perceiver whilst experiencing a glimpse of this view, providing different perspectives of the same outlook and when put together it forms a panoramic view.
Its timber lined drawers add a hidden softness to its raw, simplistic, and evident nature. A space when full of people will fall back to allow for culture, lifestyle, amazing food, and friends to congregate. Yet whilst empty will remain striking in its individuality and workmanship against the backdrop of the other buildings nearby in Cronulla.
ZEPHYR
Zephyr located on the esplanade in cronulla it emerged as the winning design through an architectural competition orchestrated by Terra Ferma, a competition that Emil's team at EMK triumphed in. I have worked with Emil very closely on this project and the inspiration has always been the connection between nature and water. Quoting our architect Emil in this instance " Nestled on the water’s edge and surrounded by panoramic ocean views, The Esplanade will truly become a benchmark project for Cronulla. Comprising of just five boutique apartments, our proposal is characterised by an exquisite connection to the water -through the sweeping curves of the facade - reminiscent of the rolling waves touching the footsteps of the site. Layouts are designed to maximise the spectacular views, complete with curved balconies that create a calming connection to the ocean and nature beyond".
To me it was all about that natural formation emerging out of the coast and its rocks, an embodiment of the coast that gently touches the ocean. This is also portrayed in the interior through the use of the colour, emerald green mosaic tiles in the showers to all bathrooms with a Waterview, the green veined stone in the kitchens surrounded by timber floors and aged bronze taps all tying the intricate palate of the hues in the ocean as seen from above, and hence bringing the outside in, a true testament to an Australian way of design.
The name Zephyr was chosen with purpose, as it pays homage to the Greek God of the wind. What better guardian for a building in a location that can be breezy at times than the God of the wind himself? The purpose of this building was for it to always be wonderful both inside and out, and the excellence of Zephyr has been nationally recognized. This extraordinary building has been honoured with a silver award for its exceptional design and will be a dream to behold its built form as it rises from the ground to be a one-of-a-kind structure on Cronulla shores.
